Review: ARMS AND THE MAN at Lamb's Players Theatre
by ErinMarie Reiter - Oct 27, 2025

“Arms and the Man”, the classic George Bernard Shaw play, is currently skewering the romantic ideals of going to battle or falling in love with wit at Lamb’s Players Theatre through November 16th.  Under the sharp and playful direction of Deborah Gilmour Smyth, it turns 19th-century notions of heroism and passion delightfully upside down. It’s brisk, bright, very funny, and may have you craving something chocolate before it’s over.
Review: PLAYHOUSE CREATURES, Orange Tree Theatre
by Aliya Al-Hassan - Mar 26, 2025

It is said that we stand on the shoulders of those who have come before. In April De Angelis's Playhouse Creatures, she celebrates five women who were clever innovators and brave pioneers of the stage at a time when female actors were openly objectified, judged and derided.

Review: INFAMOUS, Jermyn Street Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - Sep 13, 2023

The main problem is that the characters tend to dwindle down to two-dimensional figurines. We’re met by a garish personality and extravagant attitude, but we’re never offered enough reason and rationale to support them. There’s a bountiful of themes buried inside - from the more evident dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship to bare resentment, political strategy, and class restraints in it - but De Angelis skims through for the benefit of cheap laughs and funky sarcasm.

Two lovers, each with hidden secrets, struggle to prosper as gin hawkers. At a time in the 18th century when the average Briton drank 1.5 litres of gin every day, women were being locked up in cells to sober up and disorder was breaking out on every street corner, panic spreads among the upper classes who look to the magistrates, the Church and even their tipsy Queen to restore sobriety.

BWW Review: ABOUT LEO, Jermyn Street Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - Sep 8, 2018

Jermyn Street Theatre kick off their Rebels season with the world premiere of Alice Allemano's About Leo. Aspiring journalist Eliza Prentice (Eleanor Wyld) lands in Mexico, bright-eyed and armed with pesky curiosity, pursuing her quest to interview ageing artist Leonora Carrington (Phoebe Pryce in her younger version, Susan Tracy in her elder). Eliza knows that the woman notoriously doesn't grant interviews - especially when they're about her former lover Max Ernst (Nigel Whitmey) - but she hopes to gain her favours with her persistence and singular point of view.

Jermyn Street Theatre Presents the World Premiere of ABOUT LEO
by Stephi Wild - Jul 31, 2018

Eliza Prentice - millennial, Londoner, wannabe journalist - has arrived in Mexico City on the Day of the Dead. She is armed with a Dictaphone, a family connection, and a lot of questions. But the greatest living Mexican artist, Leonora Carrington, doesn't give interviews. She won't discuss her work. And she doesn't talk about Max.
