Those who attend the Hollywood Fringe Festival (HFF) surely know the married couple, Matthew Quinn and Bertha Rodriguez, producers and venue managers who have been putting together many selections since HFF began in 2010 via their company Combined Artform and Asylum venues. Continuing the celebration of independent plays, the duo has created the Hollywood Independent Theater Festival (HITFEST) https://hitfest.stagey.net/ opening in September featuring encore performances from this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. I interviewed the power couple to find out more about the new HITF.

SoHo Playhouse has announced the winners of the 2022 International Fringe Encore Series. Winners include 'Afghanistan Is Not Funny' by Henry Naylor (Theatre Award) and 'Troy Hawke: Sigmund Troy'd'' by Milo McCabe (Comedy Award). Runners-up include 'The Stakeout,' by Martin Dockery (Theatre), and 'Six Chick Flicks or a Legally Blonde Pretty Woman Dirty Danced on the Beaches while writing a Notebook on the Titanic' (Comedy).

If you missed it last time, here’s your chance: Latina Christmas Special, an American comedy of Latina proportions, will return to New York City for a limited seven-performance run filled with laughs, more laughs, music and escándalo (scandal). Performances take place December 7 through December 11 at the SoHo Playhouse.

AISH will also highlight a different model of hybrid theater; Cinematic watching of a live performance from another location (in this case country). Falling On Deaf Eyes is an autobiographical comedy performed by Justin Maurer, a rambunctious teenage punk rocker living with his single Deaf mother (Lisa Hermatz) and hearing siblings on Bainbridge Island, Washington in the 1990's. After a harrowing divorce from Justin's overbearing and controlling father, his Deaf mother faces extraordinary challenges as a single parent of three rowdy hearing children in a small provincial town.
