Previews: ARIAS WITH A TWIST at Here Arts Center
by Peter Danish - Sep 18, 2026
There are shows you see once, treasure, and file away as an artifact of a particular downtown moment that could never happen again. And then, every couple of decades, one of them proves you wrong. Arias with a Twist, back at HERE Arts Center in the very theater where it detonated in 2008, is not a nostalgia trip. It is a resurrection, and it is glorious.

Review: Klaus Nomi - Still Hovering Somewhere Between the Opera House and Outer Space
by Richard Sasanow - Sep 2, 2026
Klaus Nomi—born Klaus Sperber in Germany in 1944—was an otherworldly countertenor who materialized on New York’s downtown scene in the late 1970s. He always seemed to be conducting an improbable musical experiment: Could Saint-Saëns, Purcell, electronic pop, cabaret, rock and performance art somehow inhabit the same body? At Peter Danish’s Klaus Nomi Benefit Concert on Sunday, Aug. 30, benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the answer was a surprisingly emphatic yes.
