Ted Neely and Carl Anderson starred as Jesus and Judas, respectively. Now, thirty years later, we are at the fifty-year celebration. I was a bit trepidatious about this new modern adaptation. Theatre West will present Winter Wishes: A Holiday Cabaret Theatre December 2- December 11, 2022, Friday and Saturday at 8:00, and Sunday at 2:00pm. The performances will be held at Theatre West. Tickets are $35 in advance, and $40 at the door.

The 2022–23 TLI Season Concert Series will include five Sunday-afternoon chamber music programs performed by Boston Symphony Orchestra musicians and guests and a special appearance by the musicians from Castle of our Skins.

Leapin’ Lizards! The full cast and creative team has been announced for the all-new tour of the iconic Tony Award®-winning musical ANNIE. In the title role of Annie is Ellie Pulsifer, a 12-year-old actress from South Florida, making her tour debut. 

At a gathering last week of local dignitaries, RUBICON THEATRE, Ventura’s non-profit professional theatre company, shared progress and plans for a new community gathering space at the theatre.

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts & McCoy Rigby Entertainment will present Sally Struthers starring as “Frau Blücher” in the Southern California premiere of Mel Brooks’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Mel Brooks’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN will preview on Friday, September 16 at 8 pm & Saturday, September 17 at 2 pm (with a press opening on Saturday, September 17 at 8 pm.

The Theatre Group at SBCC is excited to announce the first show of the 2022-23 season will be the exuberant musical, SOMETHING ROTTEN! Book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Music and Lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, Conceived by Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick.  SOMETHING ROTTEN! will run July 6-23, 2022 in the Garvin Theatre and will be directed by Katie Laris, musical direction by David Potter and choreography by Christina McCarthy.

Rubicon Theatre Company, Ventura’s non-profit professional theatre company, will continue the company’s 2022-2023 Season with the World Premiere of LONESOME TRAVELER: GENERATIONS, conceived by George Grove and James O’Neil, with musical direction by Rick Dougherty and George Grove and direction by Rubicon Co-Founder James O’Neil.

Dennis DeYoung is a singer-songwriter, musician and producer. He is a founding member of the rock band Styx as primary songwriter, lead vocalist and keyboardist, a tenure that lasted from 1970 until June, 1999. Styx has sold 30 million records worldwide and is the only band to have four triple platinum albums in a row. His song 'Babe' went to number one on the Billboard charts, won Songwriter Magazine's song of the year and was also rewarded the People's Choice award for best song in 1980. He has also penned eight top ten singles in America and had four number ones in Canada. They include 'Come Sail Away', 'Lady', 'Best of Times', 'Mr. Roboto', 'Desert Moon', 'Show Me the Way', and 'Don't Let it End'. He starred in the 20th anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson and Irene Cara for which he received a Joseph Jefferson nomination in Chicago for Best Supporting Actor. He has not only written the score for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but also composed a new score for a version of 101 Dalmatians that toured in 2009 directed by Tony Award winning director Jerry Zaks. His Hunchback also won a Joseph Jefferson award for Best Musical in 2009.

I like musicals, in theory. I genuinely don’t like very many of them in practice. I know that the true and beautiful melding of rock and musical theatre is possible, because I have seen it. When I’m hard on musicals, I am not angry. I am disappointed. I know that musicals can be good.

Skylight Music Theatre announced the full cast for the Wisconsin premiere of Dennis DeYoung’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, running May 20 through June 12, 2022. Performances take place in the beautiful Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

America’s next big musical sensation has its cast! American Idol favorites Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young will lead the incredible cast of the new musical, Skates.

Music Director Andris Nelsons leads the orchestra in three monumental Strauss works: the tone poems Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks and Symphonia domestica (described above) as well as the Symphonic Fantasy on Die Frau ohne Schatten ('Woman with a Shadow'), Strauss' own 1946 distillation of his fabulist 1919 opera.
