Review: HADESTOWN 'Mesmerizes and Captivates' During Weeklong Stand at Nashville's TPAC

Mesmerizing and captivating are just two of the words that might best describe Hadestown, the Tony Award-winning best musical of the truncated 2019-20 Broadway season, which is now commanding ovations of rapturous applause from adoring fans at Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center during an eight-performance run through Sunday, November 6.

The 2019 Tony Award winner for best musical, HADESTOWN, makes its tour stop in OKC. Hadestown is a mashup of two Greek mythologies, with original music and lyrics by singer/songwriter Anais Mitchell. BWW Review: HADESTOWN at Ohio Theater

Even before patrons of the opening night of HADESTOWN arrived at the Ohio Theater (39 E. State Street in downtown Columbus), the lush red seats were being filled. On top of each seat was a red carnation, thanking attendees for returning to the theater after a long shutdown due to the Covid 19 virus.
BWW Review: HADESTOWN at Kennedy Center

It is mere coincidence that Anaïs Mitchell’s remarkable, Tony Award-winning Hadestown, now being given a solid production at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House, debuted on Broadway just before our twenty-month plague began, but it fits. Mitchell’s story is at bottom a moral call to arms, which cleverly mines the saddest tale in all of mythology and marries it to a still older myth – one which was designed to explain the seasons.

Vivian Reed is a performer, through and through, a fact clear from the moment her feet hit the stage (and even before that if she has to saunter through the room first to get there). Even over the phone, her voice brims with confidence and joy as she talks about her current series at Feinstein's/54 Below called VIVIAN REED SINGS LENA HORNE, a tribute she began in honor of Horne's centennial birthday last June.
