2014 MIDWINTER MADNESS Short Play Festival to Kick Off Feb 10

The Midwinter Madness Short Play Festival, like its more intimate sibling, the Short Play Lab, presents one-act works no more than 60 minutes in length, presented in repertory over a three-week period, at Roy Arias Studios Stage II, 300 W. 43rd St. 4th fl., New York City beginning Monday, February 10 through Sunday, March 2.

After a successful sold out run January 17-February 2, We Were Nothing! will play extended performances Friday, February 7th at 8pm, Saturday, February 8th at 8pm, and Sunday, February 9th at 5pm. The show is performed inside a private residence near Union Square. Exact address and directions will be released only to ticket holders. DAYLIGHT PRECISION to Run 2/21-3/16 at TNC

'Daylight Precision' by Douglas Lackey takes us back to World War II and into the great moral controversies involving strategic bombing. Should we bomb cities, or military targets? The United States began by avoiding cities but ended up destroying them. Lackey shows how the change came about by tracing the careers of Generals Haywood Hansell and 'Bomb them back to the Stone Age' Curtis LeMay. Lackey writes, '700,000 civilians lost their lives because Hansell lost his command to LeMay. Hansell is the unsung tragic hero of World War II.' Theater for the New City will present this new work February 21 to March 16, directed by Alexander Harrington.

Her new anti bullying play, 'I'm Sorry' centers around the idea of what life would be like if we learned not to do the things that make us have a reason to say 'I'm sorry'.

The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America, will present the 18th Annual Festival from August 8 - 24, 2014. Each year the festival presents programming by nearly 200 of the world's best emerging theatre troupes and dance companies. General FringeNYC applications for 2014 are currently being accepted for participants in all genres (theatre, dance, puppetry, performance art, multi-media, etc.). Separate FringeAL FRESCO (free outdoor events) and FringeJR (children's programming) applications are also available.

After receiving critical acclaim and overwhelming demand by sold out New York audiences, Larry Kirwan's Stephen Foster musical 'Hard Times' will extend performances thru February 16th at the the cell, A Twenty First Century Salon (Founding Artistic Director, Nancy Manocherian) (338 West 23rd Street). Long Island City-based Titan Theatre Company opened it's second show of their critically acclaimed 2013-14 season on Wednesday January 22nd with the World Premiere of the highly anticipated second installment of Angela Iannone's "Edwin Booth Trilogy" THIS PRISON WHERE I LIVE. THIS PRISON WHERE I LIVE transports audiences to Edwin Booth's 1879 run of William Shakespeare's Richard II at the McVicker Theatre in Chicago. Stirring drama unfolds as the ghost of Booth's infamous brother, assassin John Wilkes Booth, pays a visit to Edwin at the McVicker. Variations Theatre Group to Present Revival of HURLYBURLY, Begin. 2/14

Variations Theatre Group will present a rare New York City revival of David Rabe's HURLYBURLY beginning February 14th, with the Opening Night set for Wednesday, February 19th at The Chain Theatre. The original production of HURLYBURLY took New York by storm in 1984, directed by Mike Nichols. Although the long-running Broadway hit was presented in three acts, David Rabe pared his script into a leaner two-act version for the 2005 Off-Broadway revival starring Ethan Hawke and Bobby Cannavale. It is this revised version which will be presented by Variations Theatre Group by special arrangement with the playwright.
