LAByrinth Theater Company (Co-Artistic Directors Stephen Adly Guirgis, Mimi O'Donnell, and Yul Vázquez) announces additions to the list of participants for the three-day weekend event, TENN 99, a marathon celebration commemorating the 99th birthday of legendary playwright Tennessee Williams. The party begins Friday afternoon, March 26th and concludes Sunday evening, March 28th at The Cherry Lane Theater's 'Cherry Pit' (155 Bank Street). All are welcome. Admission is free. Food, drink, raffles, contests, souvenirs and free "giveaways" are all included.
LAB has also launched a new website featuring short films and social media interaction now available online at www.labtheater.or/tenn99.Stop by at any time during the event and sign up to read, or just find a seat and listen to doctors and cab drivers and bus boys read alongside LAB members, LAB friends, theater luminaries, students, and celebrities. In service to the community, the LAByrinth Theater Company will endeavor to do as many readings of Tennessee Williams works - back to back, from start to finish - of his plays, adaptations, essays, personal letters and interviews, on the occasion of his 99th birthday. When the LAByrinth Theater Company, a Company dedicated to producing exclusively new work, was debating on the concept of engaging in such a celebration of Tennessee Williams, Artistic Director Stephen Adly Guirgis commented; "If it hadn't been for Tennessee Williams, I'd probably still be a bike messenger." There was the answer.LAByrinth Theater Company was founded in 1992 by a group of actors who wanted to push their artistic limits, hone their craft, and create new plays that truly reflected their heritage and experience. Today, LAByrinth is comprised of more than 110 established and emerging theater artists from a wide array of cultural perspectives. The inclusive, multicultural ensemble encourages all members to write, act, direct, and design, and supports multidisciplinary growth and exploration in the creation of daring new work that celebrates the diversity of its New York City home.
