Princeton Ballet School Announces Summer Intensive 2018

ARB's Summer Intensive is a program of serious study in a warm and companionable atmosphere. The faculty provides caring and careful instruction conducive to technical and artistic progress. In seeking to maintain a feeling of community, Princeton Ballet School purposely limits the number of students in each class.
Experience the opportunity to:

  • Sample a taste of professional life each day (9:30-5:00pm) including rehearsals for a final performance
  • Grow technically through five hours of daily ballet technique, including pointe or men's class
  • Deepen your understanding of injury prevention, such as proper alignment and rotation

Teachers work with the whole dancer, not just focusing on the technique. Small classes provide plenty of attention and personal help. Full time faculty includes ARB Artistic Director Douglas Martin, ARB Resident Choreographer Mary Barton, ARB Company Teacher Kathleen Moore, and PBW Ballet Mistress Maria Youskevitch, with guest artists such as Kirk Peterson (American Ballet Theatre) and Trinette Singleton (Joffrey Ballet).
American Repertory Ballet's Artistic Director Douglas Martin teaches daily.

At the end of the program, students perform at the historic McCarter Theatre in Princeton. The performance is presented as an adjunct to the training, as students work and perform in both classical and contemporary styles.

One 90 minute class period per day is given to rehearsals, and all casting is at the discretion of the faculty. Each summer, ARB Resident Choreographer Mary Barton creates a new work for Summer Intensive, while other faculty members create and stage works. One large classical excerpt is also staged, such as "Giselle," Act II, staged by Maria Youskevitch in summer 2017.

One unique aspect of Princeton Ballet School's Summer Intensive is theChoreography Lab. This optional program allows developing choreographers tobegin learning the exciting process of creating new works of dance, and then present these works to their teachers and peers.
