Mike Davis and the New Wonders return to the Bickford Theatre to celebrate the birthday of a true original, a leading light of daring Jazz Age creativity: cornetist, pianist and composer Bix Beiderbecke. In the 28 years of his life, Bix played with the Wolverines, the orchestras of Jean Goldkette, Frank Trumbauer and Paul Whiteman, and made records with Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Eddie Lang, Adrian Rollini, and a host of jazz giants of the twentieth century. His compositions and recorded solos, early in the development of the improvised solo in jazz, were widely influential even in his own lifetime, including a lasting impact on his friend Hoagy Carmichael. All these jazz heroes and more will feature in our program on March 8th, as we celebrate another year of Bix Beiderbecke!
