Children's Theatre Company's World Premiere of THE SCARECROW AND HIS SERVANT Begins Tonight

Children's Theatre Company's upcoming world premiere brings together an impressive team of 2013 Ivey Award winners. Peter C. Brosius directs lauded actor Dean Holt who will bring his comedic physical prowess, for which he won a 2013 Ivey Award, to the title role in The Scarecrow and His Servant by Philip Pullman, adapted for the stage by Jeffrey Hatcher, recipient of the 2013 Ivey Award for Lifetime Achievement. Brosius received the 2013 Ivey Award for his direction of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, also featuring Dean Holt. This fast-paced, physically adept world premiere runs on the UnitedHealth Group Stage tonight, March 11 through April 6 after years of development, including workshops at the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices festival.

Madeleine George's magical and deeply moving play about communication, commitment, and connection is coming to the People's Center in March. The former 13P playwright's contemporary tale starring Brodie, a gifted linguist and single-mom-to-be-by-choice contemplates tough questions when Brodie finds that the baby she's carrying will never be able to communicate via language. Failing to receive comfort from her young girlfriend, she finds connection in unlikely new friends--namely an ape at her local zoo, and Cleva--the last known speaker of a dying language. Precious Little will be produced at the People's Center Theatre on the West Bank of Minneapolis, and runs March 21st-30th.

Children's Theatre Company welcomes Robert Dorfman, celebrated actor of stage, film and television, to the Cargill Stage in the world premiere of Balloonacy by award-winning playwright Barry Kornhauser. Dorfman, who recently relocated to the Twin Cities, will make his CTC debut as the Old Man in this world premiere production for two to five years-olds. Public performances of Balloonacy will run weekends March 29 through May 4 with three performances each Saturday and Sunday.

The Jungle Theater presents the regional premiere of DETROIT, playwright Lisa D'Amour's award-winning dissection of what it means to be middle class in this era of economic uncertainty. Detroit takes place in a first-ring suburb outside a mid-sized American city where Ben (John Middleton) and Mary (Angie Timberman) fire up the grill to welcome the couple (Anna Sundberg and Tyson Forbes) who've moved into the long-empty house next door. The fledgling friendship soon veers out of control shattering the fragile hold that newly unemployed Ben and burgeoning alcoholic Mary have on their way of life - with unexpected comic consequences. The play opens April 11 and runs through May 25 at the Jungle Theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S. in Minneapolis.

The Illusion Theater presents the recent off-Broadway production of NAKED DARROW April 3-12 at the downtown Minneapolis theater, located on the eighth floor of The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, 528 Hennepin Ave. This solo piece, written and performed by Gary Anderson, is a provocative look at the legendary lawyer who took on racism, social injustice and the death penalty in the first decades of the 1900s. After each performance, leading legal experts will be on hand for post-show discussions focused on a variety of related topics, including Randall Tietjen, editor of In the Clutches of the Law: Clarence Darrow's Letters and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Scopes Trial scholar Edward Larson (Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America's Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion, 1997).

Theatre Pro Rata, Park Square, Sandbox Theatre & Girl Friday Announce Producing Partnership

Girl Friday Productions, Park Square Theatre, Sandbox Theatre and Theatre Pro Rata officially announced a new producing partnership today, with Park Square set to host a production from each of the other three companies in its new Andy Boss Thrust Stage each season for the next three years. Performances are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2015 with Park Square rounding out the stage's eight show season with five productions of its own.
