NOISES OFF, SOUND OF MUSIC & More Set for Garden Theatre's New Season

The Garden Theatre, located at 160 West Plant Street in historic Winter Garden, is pleased to announce its third full theatre season, running from October 2010-May 2011. In addition to the five full-length theatrical presentations, the season will be dotted with one-weekend events such as music and dance concerts, as well as movies and special events, which will be announced over the next several months. Ticket prices range from $10-25 and will go on sale to the general public August 1, 2010.

Florida Studio Theatre broke box office records and sold out of Cabaret subscriptions this morning. FST has sold 8,640 subscriptions for the 2010-2011 Cabaret series, putting the Goldstein Cabaret at subscription capacity. Last year, the sales goal and capacity was 7,800 subscriptions.

In 1968, Mart Crowley's viciously funny play 'The Boys in the Band' opened off-Broadway and created a sensation among New York theatre-goers. It stimulated a new awareness of Gay Culture, which became a catalyst for the Stonewall riots a few months later, and we've never been the same since! In 1970, it was a highly successful film directed by William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist), featured the original NY cast and was seen by millions worldwide. A brand new film documentary chronicling the The Making of the Boys and its impact was a hit at the recent Ft. Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

Directed by George Gugleotti, auditions will be held on Wednesday, November 3 at the Waterfront Playhouse, 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Anyone arriving before 7:00 will be seen. The play requires experienced actors who are comfortable with the verbal and emotional demands of Mamet's characters. Legendary Swiss performance troupe Mummenschanz is coming to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center in Sarasota, FL for a performance at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3rd. The performance is part of the troupe's first U.S. tour since 2003. Tickets are $35-55 and the theatre is located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail. These exclusive, Alden Theatre performances will be Mummenschanz's only performance in the Florida region during this tour.
