Florida Theatrical Association Awards Record Number of Grants and Scholarships

Florida Theatrical Association (FTA), the non-profit presenter of Broadway in Orlando, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale has awarded $128,500 in grants and scholarships for the 2019-2020 season. This is a record number for the organization's 30 year history, up an additional $26,000 from the 2018-2019 season.

Florrie Morgenstern, the founder and creative director, and driving force behind the Spanish River Concert Series passed away this summer.  However, she left a legacy that has benefited South Florida residents for 18 years, and this year's concert series will celebrate the woman whose love of all types of music a?' classical, soul, contemporary, folk, or traditional a?' drove her to create an entity (originally known as Community Performing Arts) that would bring the music she loved to the her Florida community.  Florrie, along with her husband Seymour, grew the concerts from an original audience of 1,500 to their current subscriber list of over 10,000 music lovers.

On Saturday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. ET, the New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), and Miami City Ballet (MCB) come together for a special live-streamed WALLCAST event celebrating Igor Stravinsky and George Balanchine, two icons of the 20th century whose decades-long friendship proved to be one of the most prolific artistic pairings of their time. Led by NWS Co-Founder and Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT), this performance at the New World Center is projected live on the 7,000-sq.-ft. eastern façade of the building and may be experienced for free in adjacent SoundScape Park. Additionally, a free live-stream is available to viewers around the world via Medici.tv.
