Tortoise is a Chicago-based band known for fashioning a post-rock sound that uses jazz as a springboard. They perform as part of the Skirball's free outdoor Sunset Concerts series, which this year celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States by honoring jazz as a uniquely American musical invention. The evening is part of a series held in the Taper Courtyard with the Santa Monica Mountains as a backdrop.
