MUSICAL THEATRE GUILD EMBRACES OPTIMISM IN THEIR FIRST VIRTUAL CONCERT, FINDING THE SILVER LININGS FEATURING AN ALL-STAR CAST

LOS ANGELES, CA: "Well, well, what do you know? We should have done this a long time ago!" exclaim the ensemble in the opening number to FINDING THE SILVER LININGS, Musical Theatre Guild's first virtual concert. Now in its 24th season, Los Angeles' own Musical Theatre Guild normally presents rarely seen or forgotten musicals in semi-staged, one-night readings. But times are far from normal. This online concert allows the company to blend their deep love and historical knowledge of the art form with the challenge of exploring a new virtual performing platform. Tradition meets innovative technology in an exciting hour-long live broadcast on Sunday, October 4th hosted by Broadway veteran Gerry McIntyre who recently choreographed the socially distanced, outdoor production of GODSPELL at the Berkshire Theatre Group.

FINDING THE SILVER LININGS is a strikingly apt theme for a year that has completely upended the live performance industry. Broadway musicals have a long history of optimistic anthems and, while Musical Theatre Guild has not programmed the genre's granddaddy, 1920s "Look for the Silver Lining", the company has carefully chosen songs from their past productions that accentuate the positive, offer hope in troubled times, and share an appreciation of the simple joys in life.

The memorable songs that make up the program come from such varied musicals as WORKING, FINIAN'S RAINBOW, FLOYD COLLINS, THE APPLE TREE, BELLS ARE RINGING, VIOLET, LUCKY STIFF, and many others. The talented cast is comprised of both new and veteran members of Musical Theatre Guild who embody the company's commitment to showcasing their increasingly diverse membership in this irresistible celebration of the power of the American Musical to engage an audience with indelibly resonant lyrics and the healing power of music.

The featured performers include Jill Marie Burke, Tal Fox, James Gleason, Joe Hart, Ron Christopher Jones, Michael Kostroff, Dino Nicandros, Helen Jane Planchet, Monica Quinn, Alyssa M. Simmons, and Paul Wong along with many familiar Musical Theatre Guild faces who will introduce the songs and the shows from which they come. Creating the show are Producer/Director Travis Leland, Producer/Technical Director Julie Garnye, Musical Direction by Brent Schindele, and Stage Manager Leesa Freed.

The concert premieres Sunday, October 4th at 5:30 pm PDT/8:30 pm EDT on Musical Theatre Guild's YouTube Channel where it will be free to view, though donations are gladly accepted. Thereafter, it will continue to be available on the company's YouTube Channel for your continued viewing pleasure. Visit www.musicaltheatreguild.com for more info and a link to Broadcast.

ABOUT MUSICAL THEATRE GUILD: Now in its 24th season, Musical Theatre Guild presents rarely staged or forgotten musicals in a semi-staged, script-in-hand format, utilizing professional union actors and a live orchestra. The company membership roster of talent is a who's who of L.A.'s musical theatre performers. As part of their dual mission of preserving the original American art form of musical theatre and education, MTG offers free tickets to students at their concerts and, in partnership with Los Angeles Music Center Education Division, is represented with three original revues on their touring roster. Additional information on MTG can be found at www.musicaltheatreguild.com.
