Stuart Carden Named New Artistic Director of KCRep

Scott Hall, Chair of the Board of Directors of Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep); and Barbara Bichelmeyer, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC); announce that Stuart Carden has been selected as the next Artistic Director of KCRep after a comprehensive, nationwide search.
KCRep Launches 2019/2020 Readings In Popular Monday Night Playwright Series

Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), announced the full schedule for this season's popular Monday Night Playwright Series, which opened with BURIED ROOTS, its first play of the series, on Monday. The series features a line-up of new and returning playwrights including Michelle Tyrene Johnson, Darren Canady, James Still, Migdalia Cruz, Mashuq Mushtaq Deen and Ellen McLaughlin. These free public events take place on the UMKC campus at the Spencer Theatre Donor Lounge.

KC Chamber Orchestra Announces 2019-2020 Season

The Kansas City Chamber Orchestra has announced that their 33rd Season will kick off on Thursday, September 26th at Grace and Holy Trinity in downtown Kansas City. The historic downtown cathedral will be the perfect atmosphere for the season-opening program entitled a?oeNight Reflectionsa?? featuring talented guest conductor, Anthony Maglione and music ranging from Haydn to acclaimed young African American contemporary composer Jessie Montgomery. Maglione commented: a?oeI was reminded of the words of Desmund Tutu when I was preparing this concert: 'Hope is seeing that there is light despite all the darkness.'a?? He continued, a?oeIn our darkest, most bitter moments, there are opportunities to see the beauty of the world around us. Sometimes beauty appears to us as boisterous, joyous bursts of light, while other times it reveals itself in a moment of solitude or reflection. I'm delighted to present this season opener in hopes that our audience will find joy, solace, and hope through our musical offering.a??

Kenny Broberg, Van Cliburn Silver Medalist, Park ICM piano master's candidate, and, most recently, International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition Bronze Medalist, will return to perform for Kansas City audiences as part of Stanislav & Friends, September 20, in Helzberg Hall. Kenny, 25, won the Bronze Medal at The International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in June.

MTH Theater Partners With Quixotic To Re-open 440 Seat Theater In Crown Center

Earlier today MTH Theater at Crown Center announced a partnership with Kansas City based performance art collective Quixotic to re-open the 440 seat Theater located on the fourth floor of Crown Center. Formerly the American Heartland Theatre, the venue is being refurbished to accommodate a 3 month installment of an updated version of Quixotic's SENSATIA.

BWW Review: A BRONX TALE at Starlight Theatre

'A Bronx Tale,' playing this week at Starlight Theatre, is one of those hidden gems of a show that enjoyed a fairly limited Broadway run. And because the Broadway run ended last fall after 700 performances (for now), a good portion of the New York cast has signed up for the touring company and are performing for Kansas City audiences. These folks obviously love this show. It shows in the performance.
