Unless otherwise noted, all roles are open to Actors 18 and older, of all ethnicities and genders.

PREPARATION

Prepare two contrasting monologues of your choice. Woody Sez and This Land - prepare a short cut of a folk song and bring your string instrument to accompany yourself. Bring headshot and resume stapled together.

Synopsis:

Woody Guthrie, America’s original folk hero, transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle for social protest and observation. Moved by social conscience, he paved the way for Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Tweedy, and more. WOODY SEZ tells the story of Woody’s incredible journey.

beginning of this explosive new comic thriller full of surprising twists, dark secrets, and broken cabinets. The New England premiere that strikes us like a streak of lightning (Broadway World) from the mind of writer Jeffrey Lieber, co-creator of the hit television series LOST.

Seeking:

Adele: female, 50s; intelligent, saucy, and a fabulist. Passionate, with a sense of humor. In charge as much as anyone is. Career woman, wife, mother.

Miller: male, 50s; practical and a realist. Loving and witty. Plays guitar. The husband, the father. Zach: male, 50s; optimistic, eager, funny and in love. Sings. The lover, the doctor.

CHRISTMAS ON THE ROCKS

Synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve in a rundown local bar. Expecting a silent night, the bartender finds himself mixing drinks for a parade of surprising guests in this delightful parody – children from your favorite Christmas specials and movies – now all grown up.

Seeking Emergency Replacements Only:

The Bartender: CAST 60s-70s; the straight man for a lot of jokes, but is also able to communicate directly to the audience with subtle, simple looks. The Bartender is willing to go on whatever journey the patrons of the bar bring him on. A great listener and is gracious at giving the stage over to the other characters without distracting.

The Man: CAST approx. 40s; versatile; will double as multiple Christmas characters who have now aged. Able to go from one very distinct character to another. Has impeccable comic timing.

The Woman: CAST approx. 40s; versatile; will double as multiple Christmas characters who have now aged. Able to go from one very distinct character to another. Has impeccable comic timing.

KING JAMES

Synopsis: It’s 2004. LeBron James was just the hero Cleveland needed. Two strangers eat, sleep, and dream in the language of basketball while forging a deep bond over their worship of the “King” - one of the greatest NBA players of all time. From Pulitzer Prize-finalist Rajiv Joseph this wonderfully funny and remarkably moving new play explores the power of friendship and brotherhood in modern fandom.

Seeking:

Shawn: male, Black, ages 21, 27, 31 and 33; a bit reserved, but confident in himself. A writer. A hard core basketball fan. A guy who thinks before he talks. But he always has an opinion, even if he doesn’t wear it on his sleeve. Quietly ambitious.

Matt: male, white, ages 21, 27, 31 and 33; a slightly messy guy who, somewhat incongruously, works in a wine bar. A hard-core basketball fan. A guy who talks before he thinks. Funny, a bit quirky, with a kind of restless energy. Emotional and talkative.

PRIMARY TRUST

Synopsis: Kenneth is a 38-year-old bookstore worker who spends his evenings sipping mai tais at the local tiki bar. When he’s suddenly laid off, Kenneth is forced to face a world he's long avoided – with transformative and even comical results. A touching, inventive tale of lost dreams, new beginnings, and old friends.

Seeking:

Kenneth: male, late 30s, Black; smart, sensitive, with an active imagination. Has a desire for a life bigger than the one he’s living, but a fear of the unknown.

Bert: male, late 30s – early 40s, Black; Kenneth’s best friend, Solid and steady, Bert has a practical way of looking at the world. But he’s also sensitive and highly attuned to people’s needs. Bert’s warmth and lack of judgement is a comfort to Kenneth. When Kenneth is pushed to try something new, it is Bert who encourages him along the way.

Wally’s Waiter / Corrina: female, late 30s – early 40s, Black; this multiple-role track includes a variety of waiters, at the local tiki bar, ranging in age, including Corrina: a sensitive waitress who befriends Kenneth. Corrina is smart and not terribly concerned with other people’s opinions. She has a sense of humor and marches to the beat of her own drum.

Sam / Clay: male, 50s – 60s; this two-role track includes Sam: the chain-smoking, gruff, yet secretly tender owner of the town’s only bookstore, and Clay: a former college football champion and current bank manager; a jock with a sensitive side.

Synopsis: In the not-too-distant future, Aislinn is growing old, alone, in her New York City walk-up that is becoming harder and harder to manage. While she pines for a simpler, analog past, her son sends a sensational new caretaker who is not quite human...but she's getting there.

Stacy: female, mid-30s; moves well, does push-ups and dances. Is in perfect physical condition. Dangerous and loving. The Artificially Intelligent care giver.

Aislin: female, 60s-70s; cranky, sassy, and afraid. A woman needing care and not wanting it.

Synopsis: This educational show for school audiences takes an in-depth look at America through the music of Woody Guthrie. Four actors/musicians help students make connections to the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, FDRs New Deal, the Works Progress Administration, and World War II following Woody Guthrie from California to New York and beyond. The four singers/actors play a variety of instruments, including fiddle, upright bass, guitar, parlor guitar, harmonica, spoons, dulcimer, and banjo.
