Equity actors for principal roles in Barter Theatre's 2023 Season (See breakdown).
Year-round, Resident Company Members: Most members of our resident company sing and dance; for these auditions, we encourage you to sing and attend the movement auditions in addition to acting if you are interested in becoming a member of the resident company. Also seeking Local and Non-Local Jobbers for roles for a single show or a single repertory, and actors for six readings and staged productions during the Appalachian Festival of Plays and
Playwrights.
Most actors tend to participate in two productions during the same repertory.
Barter Theatre believes that great stories belong to everyone. We welcome actors of all backgrounds, identities, ages, and ethnicities to audition. We encourage BIPOC actors to audition for all roles.

COVID PROTOCOLS:
Respirator or surgical masks are required to be worn at all times indoors, except during your audition. Barter Theatre has instituted a mandatory COVID vaccination program for all employees.
Abingdon is approximately six hours from Washington, D.C. and ten hours from NYC by auto. The nearest airport is Tri-Cities which is a forty-minute drive from Abingdon.
An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.
PREPARATION
Please prepare either 1 or 2 contrasting monologues, no more than 1 ½ minutes each. If you are doing 2, then make sure they contrast in some way. If you sing, in addition to a monologue, prepare one verse and one chorus of a song (or 16 bars of a song). Have a contrasting piece ready if asked. Bring sheet music in the correct key (no lead sheets or vocal only music); accompanist provided but will not transpose. No recorded accompaniment or a cappella singing. Please bring THREE (3) copies of your picture and resume.

Requirement for proof of vaccination:
Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, etc.) will be required to show proof of COVID vaccination prior to entry into the venue. (Anyone with a medical or religious exemption from vaccination, should e-mail ahoeschen@actorsequity.org with Vaccination exemption in the subject line and attach proof of exemption in advance of their appointment. Information provided will be kept confidential.) Anyone with symptoms of COVID, flu, or any other infectious disease that can be transmitted by casual contact should not attend the auditions.
Everyone participating in the auditions is encouraged to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
If the risk level for Washington County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 48 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified at least 24 hours in advance if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.
We encourage members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.
