BWW Previews: THE MANIC MONOLOGUES at Open Door Rep: A Production I Wont Soon Forget
by DC Felton - November 09, 2019
Over the last year, thanks to Broadwayworld, I have had the opportunity to attend shows in multiple theaters in Des Moines and the surrounding communities. With only one writer currently for Broadwayworld Des Moines, I've found myself in a predicament. I auditioned and ended up cast in a show. Before I get too far, I need to say I wanted to audition for and wanted to be part of his show. The puzzle is how do I give a show coverage when I'm involved in it. I can't do a review for multiple reasons. I can't review my work, and it would be awkward to discuss my fellow cast members. As I pondered options, there was one that seemed to stick. I may not be able to tell you how good the show is without you thinking my opinion is biased, but I can tell you the reasons why I think you should go and see this production.

BWW Review: DELUSIONS OF POWER at Carousel Theatre Of Indianola: Not Your Typical Political Comedy
by DC Felton - November 08, 2019
Have you ever thought what would happen if a sitting President was unfit to serve in the White House? You probably just had an instant reaction to the questions based on your thoughts on our current administration. This review is not going to be a commentary on this or any other administration, but about Carousel Theatre of Indianola's current production of 'Delusions of Power' opening today November 10. This fun comedy is not your everyday political comedy that satirizes current events, it takes the idea of a rarely evoked amendment and asks what could happen if it were to be used.

BWW Review: SEUSSICAL JR. at Des Moines Young Artists' Theatre: A Magical Evening That Reminds You Of The Power of Theatre and Imagination
by DC Felton - November 04, 2019
If you were to look back on your childhood, one of the first books you probably read was a Dr. Seuss book. The books have become a rite of passage as the stories are passed down from generation to generation. In 2012, I had the pleasure to be involved in a production of a show and this weekend I got to share the show with a new generation by taking my friend's 5-year-old daughter to the show. That show was Des Moines Young Artists' Theatre's (DMYAT) production of a?oeSeussical: Jr.a?? This whimsical production is a reminder to adults about the power of imagination and shows the magic that happens when young artists get to tell stories on stage.
BWW Review: 'NIGHT, MOTHER at Ankeny Community Theatre: Tackling a Difficult Topic
by DC Felton - November 02, 2019
Suicide and mental illness are issues that people have a hard time discussing. When theatres take on one of these subjects, they have to ride a very thin line about how far they can push the subject and still be excepted by their audience. Each person's reaction can be very different. Ankeny Community Theatre (ACT) is taking that risk with their production of a?oe 'Night, Mothera?? which opened on October 31. Because the topic of suicide can have different implications for each person that sees the show, I'm not going say if I felt the play tackles that subject successfully or not, but I'm going to focus on what Ankeny is doing successfully with this show.

BWW Review: MEAN GIRLS at Des Moines Performing Arts: A Production you will say is so 'Fetch!'
by DC Felton - October 18, 2019
Sometimes, it's fun to go back and take a look at a past time in our lives, especially if there were good memories from it. If someone were to ask you about a time in your life, you probably aren't going to say high school. When we do look back, many times it is to laugh about the memories we have. a?oeMean Girlsa?? allows us to take a trip back and have a few laughs as we see characters that we have come to love through the 2000 movie, but also that we may recognize as well. This trip back in time is brought to Des Moines thanks to Des Moines Performing Arts where this show opens their 2019-2020 Willis Broadway Series.
BWW Review: SOUVENIR at Noce: A Show Worth Revisiting
by DC Felton - October 16, 2019
Theatre companies always hope a show will do well, but every so often a show comes that exceeds their expectations, and eventually, they bring the show back. For Noce, known for bringing the best jazz artist to Des Moines, their show is a play ironically called a?oeSouvenira?? which is returning to the end of October. I missed it the first time the show was produced, and after seeing the show this weekend, this a?oeSouvenira?? was certainly worth taking another look at.
