James Sewell Ballet, incorporated as Ballet Works, is a professional contemporary ballet company based at 528 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was founded in New York City by James Sewell and Sally Rousse and relocated to Minnesota in 1993, conceived as a chamber dance troupe blending the elegance of classical ballet, the freedom of modern dance and the spirit of vaudeville. The company is built around a close-knit group of dance artists making innovative work that tests the technical boundaries of ballet, and it has toured nationally for more than three decades. Its stated mission is to transform dance, artists and audiences through collaboration, education and equitable opportunities. Recent projects include Opera Moves and Coordi.
