Opera Columbus Announces OPERA CABERET Collaboration with Shadowbox Live

Opera Columbus and Shadowbox Live have collaborated to create Opera Cabaret, an innovative, new program designed to take opera out of a traditional theatre setting and transform it into an immersive, interactive, and highly accessible experience in a casual environment. Opera Cabaret is designed to appeal to audiences aged 21-40, and provide an introduction to opera for those who have no experience with the art form or who may not be inclined to attend a traditional opera performance in a theatre.

Actors' Theatre of Columbus will close its 2012 summer season at the Columbus Commons with the production of Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. The production will run Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun for two weekends, September 13-16 and September 20-23, with performances starting at 7:30 PM. Performances are free, though donations of $5-10 are encouraged. It's been a Broadway favorite since it's 1975 opening, and the Academy Award winning 2012 movie version did little to detract from its fame, but if you weren't fascinated with Chicago's musical tale of sex, lies, and corruption before now, Shadowbox Live's stellar cast will definitely give you enough of the ol' "Razzle Dazzle" to make you a fan.

Columbus Symphony to Open 2012-13 Season with a One-Night-Only Performance of Beethoven’s Ninth, 10/5

Guest vocalists Dominique Labelle (soprano), Susanne Mentzer (mezzo-soprano), Adam Diegel (tenor), and David Pittsinger (bass-baritone) join the Columbus Symphony, Columbus Symphony Chorus, and Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni for a one-night-only season opening performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, the world renowned Ode to Joy. The evening's program will also include Handel's grand ode for the coronation of England's King George II and a gentle motet by Mozart.

The national tour of The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, will play Columbus as part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Columbus 2013-14 season. Patrons can secure tickets to The Book of Mormon by subscribing to the Broadway in Columbus 2012-13 season. When renewing in 2013-14, subscribers are guaranteed the same seats and will therefore lock in tickets to the Columbus premiere engagement of The Book of Mormon.

CAPA has moved its box office operations into the space previously occupied by the Ohio Theatre gift shop (39 E. State St.). Dedicated to Barbara and Dr. Ralph Lach in 2010, the new CAPA Ticket Center is located just a few feet from its previous location (from the east side of the Ohio Theatre marquee to the west side). The space was redesigned to enhance customer service and provide patrons with a user-friendly and efficient ticket-buying experience.
