Music is the heartbeat of the Appalachian Festival, filling the grounds all weekend with the authentic sounds of mountain heritage. Festivalgoers will enjoy performances from beloved local musicians including Ma Crow, Vernon McIntyre, Mike Oberst, Rita Beach, Steve Bonafel, Cecil Jackson, and many more—each bringing their own distinctive style and deep appreciation for Appalachian tradition.
From high-energy bluegrass and old-time fiddle tunes to heartfelt ballads and front-porch harmonies, the music captures the spirit of the mountains. Banjo rolls, mandolin melodies, driving bass lines, and soaring vocals create an atmosphere that invites toe-tapping, dancing, and singing along.
Throughout the weekend, performers will take the stage to celebrate the storytelling, faith, perseverance, and joy woven into Appalachian culture. Whether gathered near the main stage or enjoying the sounds drifting across the festival grounds, guests will experience music that connects generations and keeps these treasured traditions alive.
A highlight of the festival is the Living History Area, an authentic Mountain Village that brings Appalachian life and heritage to vivid reality. Visitors can step back in time to the early 1800s as skilled demonstrators showcase traditional trades such as blacksmithing, tinsmithing, mountain distilling, broom making, soap making, spinning, and more. Throughout the village, artisans share the craftsmanship and self-reliance that shaped mountain communities. Guests are also invited to experience the Native American Dance Circle, where powerful drumming and traditional dances honor deep cultural roots and celebrate enduring traditions.
New this year, Civil War reenactors will add another dynamic layer to the experience. Through interactive demonstrations, authentic uniforms, and living portrayals, they offer a glimpse into a pivotal era of American history, helping festivalgoers better understand the challenges and stories that shaped the Appalachian region and the nation.
The celebration begins Sunday morning with a Mountain Church Service held within the Living History Area, creating a meaningful and worshipful start to the day. Afterward, guests can relax, enjoy delicious festival food and beverages, and take a leisurely stroll along the Ohio River in the historic Village of New Richmond, soaking in the charm and beauty of the riverfront setting.
The Appalachian Festival is fun for the whole family and is the one event you won’t want to miss this year. Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with tradition, music, and togetherness.
