The City of Cleveland Heights and Cain Park 2012 Theater Artistic Director Russ Borski previously announced that AVENUE Q opens Cain Park's 2012 season in the Alma Theater tonight, June 15 through July 1 (preview June 14). Paul Gurgol and Borski co-direct this Tony Award-winning musical.
The Musical Box Brings THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY to the State Theatre, 11/8

The Musical Box return to the State Theatre at PlayhouseSquare November 8th perform Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. The Musical Box is the only band in the world to acquire from Peter Gabriel and Genesis the performing rights and access to archives, audio tracks and original slideshow for The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, re-staged over 25 years after the original concert in painstaking detail. The show is set for November 8, and tickets go on sale June 22, 2012.
Kristin Chenoweth Performs at PlayhouseSquare's Palace Theatre Tonight, 6/13

Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth launched her debut world tour in May. The 19-date North American leg of the tour kicked off May 9th in Seattle and concludes in Chenoweth's hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on June 24th. In between, she'll be making her first appearance at PlayhouseSquare's Palace Theatre, tonight, June 13 for one 7:30 pm show.
MAMMA MIA! Plays PlayhouseSquare, 7/13-22

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, returns to PlayhouseSquare this July. Performances begin on Friday, July 13 and run through Sunday, July 22 at the Palace Theatre.

However, in contrast to Bush, Jackson was also on the roll of the best presidents. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan, the theatre challenges audiences mainly strong works. Included in the winners have been this season's ANTELBELLUM, and past offerings such as DARWINNI, THE COMUPPANCE OF MAN, BLUE SKY TRANSMISSION: A TIBETAN BOOK OF THE DEAD, and INSOMNIA THE WAKING OF HERSELVES. Some other offerings have confounded more than excited.

A veteran of stage and screen, Pamela Myers has starred in several of Sondheim's works, including INTO THE WOODS, GYPSY, SWEENEY TODD and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. She was also a member of the original Broadway cast of COMPANY, for which she received a Tony nomination. Trained at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Myers also enjoys teaching and has spent the past four summers sharing her knowledge with students in the Cabaret Conference at Yale University.

Beck Center for the Arts has announced it is the next recipient of a Dworken & Bernstein Co., L.P.A. Cy Pres Award. To commemorate this major gift, a reception will be held 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, in Daniels Lounge of Beck Center, located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. The amount of the award will remain undisclosed until the 7 p.m. ceremony on June 4.
All-City FOOTLOOSE Opens at Ohio Theatre in PlayhouseSquare Tonight, 6/1

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) presents its thirteenth annual All-City Musical, Footloose to crown the District's 2011-12 series of All-City Arts Programming. The production features the talents of over fifty CMSD students from across the District and takes place on the stage of the Ohio Theatre at PlayhouseSquare, tonight, June 1 through June 3, 2012. Tony Sias, Director of Arts Education for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, co-directs the production with Kimberly Brown. Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford, Footloose was adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. The show's music was written by Tom Snow with lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Additional music for Footloose was written by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.

When all is said and done, Great Lakes Theater should be extremely proud of its first collaboration of PlayhouseSquare as part of the annual Key Bank Broadway Series. The production is on par with the touring shows that stop in Cleveland. Just because SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is considered a regional production shouldn't stop people from going to see it. You'll leave the theatre with a deeper appreciate of the theatre process, more knowledge of the amazing Stephen Sondheim and a song or two stuck in your head.
