Great Lakes Theater to Launch CAMP THEATER! for Students, 6/10

Great Lakes Theater will present CAMP THEATER! - a summer drama camp held at Berea High School for students ages 4-18. Students can sign up for one or both weeks of camp, which will run June 10-14, and June 17-21, 2013. Immersing participants in interactive and educational theater-based activities, CAMP THEATER! is a unique opportunity for students to work with and learn from Great Lakes Theater professional teaching artists in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

Nuns, who are traditionally known as those fearsome enforcers of strict rules, wielding punishing rulers, and giving lesser human beings the evil eye. The purveyors of such wisdom as 'don't wear patent leather shoes because they reflect up,' 'don't go on a date to a restaurant with white tablecloths because it will remind the boy of bed sheets,' 'red clothing incites passion,' and 'don't wear makeup as it entices the devil.'

The George Gund Foundation awarded a $3 million grant at its February board meeting to support The Cleveland Orchestra's Sound for the Centennial Campaign. Pledged over six years, the award honors the late George Gund III, who was a trustee of the Musical Arts Association, the non-profit organization operating The Cleveland Orchestra, Severance Hall, and the Blossom Music Festival.

Cleveland Play House Opens GOOD PEOPLE, 3/22

Cleveland Play House will produce the hit Broadway comedy Good People, written by one of the most important new American playwrights. Nominated for a 2011 Tony Award for Best Play, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People takes an affectionate look at the 'haves' and 'have-nots' through the eyes of characters who won't be ignored. Actress Kate Hodge returns to the CPH stage (Dinner with Friends, Bright Ideas) to play the tough-talking, blue-collar Margie Walsh, a role that won Frances McDormand a 2011 Tony Award for Best Actress. Also returning to the CPH stage to play Dottie, Margie's landlord, is actress Denny Dillon (Well), a Cleveland native and former CPH Curtain Puller. Directed by Laura Kepley, CPH Associate Artistic Director,Good People will run in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare starting Friday, March 22 through Sunday, April 14, 2013. For the first time in over a decade, Ohio State's School of Music presents Mozart'sRequiem Mass in D Minor at 3 pm today, March 3 in Mershon Auditorium, 1871 North High St. Conducted by Robert Ward, director of choral activities, the powerful piece will bring together Ohio State's Chorale, Symphonic Choir, Men's Glee Club, Women's Glee Club, and Symphony Orchestra. In all, the performance will feature 252 vocalists and 35 orchestra members.

There is a recent trend for Cleveland area professional theatres to couple with local university drama programs. Cleveland Play House has married itself to both Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve's MFA programs. Cleveland Public Theatre and Oberlin College have such an agreement. The connection between Beck Center and Baldwin Wallace's nationally ranked musical theatre program, has resulted in not only allowing BW students to appear on a professional stage, and the expansion of the acting pool for Beck, but the production several top notch shows.
