Actors Studio Of Charlotte Hosts Beginning Film-Acting Classes, Begin 2.6

By: Jan. 13, 2011

Film Actors' Studio of Charlotte is registering the next session of our Subtextual Film Acting Class, a beginning-level acting class, starting February 6, 2011.

Taught by Lon Bumgarner, this 8-week course is a foundational study in acting -- in front of a camera or on stage. We use cameras to record your progress and to analyze what is happening in your performance. This fosters understanding of the actors' relationship to the vehicle of film. In addition, the basic premises of 'truthful' acting are introduced and examined, based on a combination of the Stanislavski Method and Lon's own conglomeration of wisdom from years of directing, working in the industry and teaching.

8 week class, starts Feb. 6th, 2-4pm Sundays at Corrigan & Johnston Casting Studio in NoDa. Cost: $250
$40 non-refundable deposit. Payment plans available.
Note: 2 ‘no-class' weeks mean total course time start-finish will be 10 weeks.
Registration and more info online: www.filmactorsstudio.net; or call Sarah with any questions at 980-428-1586.

**à There will also be an interim-level Technique class starting the same day; note that Subtextual Film Acting or equivalent experience is a pre-requisite. See website for more info. ß **

Lon is an "actors" instructor, even though he is and has been a professional director and producer of film and stage for decades.
He brilliantly understands the role of the actor in the production and passionately desires his students to "get" the concepts of finding your Personal Voice and bringing forth Truth (as opposed to imitation, indication, or make-believe) in performance. Lon is assisted by Marilyn Carter, Masters in Drama, Yale and currently adjunct instructor of acting at CPCC and UNCC.

Lon has taught hundreds of students and professional actors in the over ten years that he has been in Charlotte teaching acting and is also currently a Professor of Acting at UNCC. He has two MFA's: one in Film, the other in Theatre. He has studied with the Royal Shakespeare Academy in England, worked in Hollywood for 8 years, directed (and directs) plays in NYC, Charlotte and elsewhere, and ran Charlotte's only Equity theatre company for 6 years. See his CV at www.filmactorsstudio.net.
