Planet Improv is celebrating the 10th birthday of its premier troupe, The Chuckleheads, with a comedy show at Central Piedmont Community College on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 8pm. Notwithstanding the lingering leeriness I feel about going to see them, one-person shows can be memorable and truly special. Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Frank Gorshin's Say Goodnight, Gracie and Colin Quinn's Long Story Short stand out as the best that I've seen by men, while I'd point to Julie Harris's Belle of Amherst, Lily Tomlin's The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe, and Tova Feldshuh's Golda's Balcony as the best by women - plus two more at Spoleto this year, Avital Lvova's Angel and Ayodele Casel's While I Have the Floor. Described locally and nationally as the one standout star , the man that steals the show again and again with his antics and musical outrageousness... or spark of genius , and the acrobat, pianist of incomparable skill and singing actor who lights up the house to steal the show, Nat Zegree has become a household name for Flat Rock Playhouse fans over the last year and a half. Back again, this time in a more classical light, to take on the role of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the upcoming play, Amadeus, Nat continues to astound Playhouse patrons with his musical prowess and contagious spirit; so much so, that additional plans have been made for an extra One Nat Only performance at the end of this month. Piedmont Players Theatre (PPT) is excited to announce the 4th season of its Youth Theatre Academy. Directed by Director and Choreographer Gwen Matthews, the program is designed around students who have a passion for theatre and a desire to improve their skills and techniques. Matthews will guide students through a structured curriculum spanning 14 weeks, beginning next month.
