- January 06, 2009 Parsons Dance presents the World Premiere of REMEMBER ME, a collaboration with the lead vocalists of East Village Opera Company (EVOC), featuring the music of the acclaimed rock opera band. Met Presents New Year's Eve Premiere of Puccini's LA RONDINE by Eddie Varley
- December 27, 2008 After an absence of 82 years, Puccini's bittersweet romance La Rondine returns to the Met in a new production with a gala premiere performance on New Year's Eve. La Rondine stars Angela Gheorghiu as Magda, the Parisian socialite, and Roberto Alagna as Ruggero, her lover. Lisette Oropesa, Marius Brenciu, in his Met debut, and Samuel Ramey are the other principal singers. Marco Armiliato conducts.
The MET Opera Releases A DVD Of 'THE MAGIC FLUTE' 12/18 by BWW News Desk
- December 22, 2008 The Metropolitan Opera will release the DVD of its abridged, English-language production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, the inaugural transmission of the company's Emmy award-winning Live in HD series from December 2006. The first self-produced DVD by the Met, The Magic Flute DVD will retail for $25.00. It will be available exclusively at the Met Opera Shop beginning December 18, timed to performances of The Magic Flute on the Met stage beginning December 22.
City Opera Presents 'I'M ON MY WAY' For Black History 1/28 by Gabrielle Sierra
- December 19, 2008 In honor of Black History Month, City Opera co-presents a three-part series, Black History at New York City Opera, with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The first program, 'I'm on My Way': Black History at City Opera on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, commemorates the rich African-American contributions to City Opera's heritage and the great African-American works and artists who have graced City Opera's stage. Continuing with 'One Fine Day': A Tribute to Camilla Williams on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 and 'Troubled Island': 60th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the programs feature discussion, live performance, special guests, historic slides and audio and video clips. All three events take place at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, located at 15 Malcolm X Boulevard in New York City.
Linda Watson Sings Isolde In MET'S TRISTAN UND ISOLDE by Gabrielle Sierra
- December 19, 2008 Linda Watson will sing the role of Isolde in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde on December 20, replacing Katarina Dalayman, who is ill. Ms. Watson first sang Isolde in 1998 at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (D?sseldorf), and has since performed the role in Prague, Florence, Bern, Tokyo, Munich, Amsterdam, and Los Angeles. She is also a noted Br?nnhilde in Wagner's cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen, which she has performed at the Bayreuth Festival for the last three summers, from 2006 to 2008. Watson made her Met debut as Kundry in Wagner's Parsifal in April, 2003.

Fr?d?ric Chaslin conducts the performances which run through Saturday, January 10, 2008 and feature Mexican tenor Ram?n Vargas and Latvian soprano Maija Kovalevska as Puccini's star-crossed lovers, Rodolfo and Mim?. Fellow Bohemians in the cast are portrayed by Susanna Phillips as Musetta in her Met debut, Mariusz Kwiecien as the painter Marcello, Tommi Hakala as the musician Schaunard, and Oren Gradus as the philosopher Colline. Paul Plishka sings both Benoit and Alcindoro. Massimo Giordano sings Rodolfo in the final two performances.

- December 11, 2008 Waltraud Meier will sing the role of Isolde in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde on December 12, replacing Katarina Dalayman, who is ill. Ms. Meier is a renowned Isolde who has frequently sung the role with Daniel Barenboim, the conductor for the Met performances. This will be her first performance of Isolde at the Met. She is arriving this evening from Munich.

- December 06, 2008 Gary Lehman will sing the role of Tristan in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde this evening, replacing Peter Seiffert, who is ill.
Lehman sang two performances of Tristan at the Met last season. Seiffert is still scheduled for performances on December 6 matinee, 12, 16, and 20. Daniel Barenboim conducts, and Katarina Dalayman sings the role of Isolde as scheduled.
$25 Weekend Tickets Available For Opera Lovers During Economic Crisis by Gabrielle Sierra
- December 05, 2008 In response to the recession, the Metropolitan Opera's Board of Directors has decided to subsidize some of the best seats for weekend evening performances for the duration of the opera season. Approximately 16,000 prime seats in the Orchestra and Grand Tier, ranging in price from $295 to $140, will be available for $25 through a weekly drawing beginning December 8. Entries for the drawing to purchase the $25 seats will be available only at the Met's web site, www.metopera.org. The $3 million dollar cost to underwrite the program has been contributed entirely from among the Board's 45 managing directors.
