Met Opera Will Drop Use of 'Blackface' in Production of OTELLO

The Santa Fe Opera announced that they will present an opera based on the life of Steve Jobs called 'The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,' by composer Mason Bates and librettist Mark Campbell.  It is set to debut in 2017.

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's (Verismo Opera), the house opera company of the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), will hold its fall Open House and a silent auction fundraiser on Saturday, September 12, 2015. 15th Annual Peking Opera Festival Set for 9/20

Wei Liu (Artistic Director of Wu Han Peking Opera Company of China) is an award-winning Peking Opera performing artist. She is a Level-One Performing Artist of China*, and is known for her performance as virtuous and elite female characters (Qingyi). In her thirty-plus-year performing experience, she has created many original roles that received endless raves. Ms. Liu is also the youngest performer to ever receive two Plum Performance Awards, the highest honor to receive in the Performing Arts in China. Under her leadership, Wu Han Peking Opera Company has been continuously selected as one of Top Ten Peking Opera Company in China for many years.

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina Opera has joined the consortium co-commissioning and co-producing the new opera COLD MOUNTAIN, with music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon and libretto by the renowned Gene Scheer. Based on Charles Frazier's wildly successful 1997 novel COLD MOUNTAIN (which sold over four million copies and won the National Book Award for fiction) this North Carolina story tells of the long journey homeward of Confederate soldier Inman to his love, Ada.

Boston Lyric Opera to Stage IN THE PENAL COLONY in The Cyclorama, 11/11

Boston Lyric Opera today announced the location for its Opera Annex production of Philip Glass' In The Penal Colony.  The one-act, two-character chamber opera based on a 1914 Franz Kafka short story will be staged in The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts from November 11-15, 2015.  Tickets for In the Penal Colony and all of BLO's 2015/16 Season shows go on sale to the public Friday, July 31.

Director Bartlett Sher probes the Moor's dramatic downfall with an outstanding cast: tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko plays the doomed Otello; new soprano star Sonya Yoncheva sings Desdemona, Otello's innocent wife and victim; and baritone Željko Lu?i? plays the evil Iago, who masterminds Otello's demise.
