VALENTIN BIANCHI Wines from Argentina-Sip and Savor

Enjoying wine is all about discovery. Broadwayworld recently had dinner at Chimichurri Grill East in NYC with Federico Nino, the Export Manager for Bodegas Valentin Bianchi wines from Argentina. An exciting selection of the producer's wines was presented that paired wonderfully with the dishes prepared by the restaurant's chef, Carlos Darquea.

A little background. Valentin Bianchi emigrated from Italy to Argentina in 1910. Through hard work and endeavor, he realized his dream in 1928 with the ownership of a small winery and vineyard in the San Rafael, Mendoza region of Argentina. Now, almost seven decades later, Bodegas Valentin Bianchi is still family-owned and operated by its founder's grandsons. The producer's 716 sunny acres of vineyards are filled with rootstock from Valentin's native Italy as well as vines from California and France.

In 2017, a new winemaking team led by Silvio Alberto began to help shape the future of the company while still maintaining its traditions and historical roots. As part of this effort, a new winery in Mendoza's Uco Valley is beginning to produce new Bianchi labels under the name of Enzo.

Valentin Bianchi wines are currently exported to more than 40 countries around the world. They are all about quality. Both casual wine drinkers and wine aficionados appreciate them. Bianchi has a wine that works for all occasions at a nice variety of price points. Here are just some of our favorites.

The Bianchi Brut Sparkling NV (SRP $21.99) is comprised of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. A delicate wine with persistent bubbles, it transports you to a place of celebration. Toast to good times and pair it with small plates or appetizers.

Elsa Torrones 2017 (SRP $11.99) Made from 100% Torrontes from LaRioja, the wine is named after Dona Elsa, the late grandmother of the current Bianchi owners who started the winery with her husband Valentin. This is a well-balanced wine, ideal for a Saturday sip with friends.

Famiglia Bianchi Nebbiolo Malbec 2014 (SRP $19.99) With 50% Malbec and 50% Nebbiolo, this wine has a deep purple-red color and pairs very well with a wide variety of foods. It's nice to serve with a crudité of hard cheeses and meats.

The New Age White (SRP $12.99) is a fruity, refreshing wine that should be served chilled. It is made from 90% Torrontes and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. It's a nice aperitif and also pairs well with spicy foods. Try it as a light cocktail called a Tincho by pouring it over ice with a twist of lime.

Enzo Bianchi 2013 (SRP $54.99) has 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec and 7 % Petit Verdot. With its deep red color, this fruity, balanced wine is made with hand-harvested and specially sorted grapes. It spent 18 months in 100% French oak and after stabilization, filtering, and bottling, it was bottle aged another 24 months. It is a wonderful accompaniment for your red meats.

These wines and others produced by Valentin Bianchi are ones that we hope our readers will seek when dining out or purchasing fine wine.
