Chicago Philharmonic Mentorship Program Expands to Local High Schools and More!

The Chicago Philharmonic Mentorship Program offers students at Chicago-area public schools opportunities for musical and personal growth through repeated interactions with The Chicago Philharmonic Society's musicians. The program was launched last year at Old Orchard Junior High School (OOJH) in Skokie, and tomorrow it will be expanded to the Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the city's West Side.

Oakland Symphony to Premiere Martin Rokeach's Piccolo Concerto, 3/18

Oakland, CA, February 1, 2016 – The world premiere of a new piccolo concerto by Bay Area composer Martin Rokeach highlights the Oakland Symphony's concert scheduled Friday, March 18, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Music Director Michael Morgan will conduct and the program also includes Cherubini's Requiem featuring the Oakland Symphony Chorus, Lynne Morrow, Director, and Beethoven's Second Symphony. The evening begins at 7 pm with no-host drinks, free pre-concert lobby entertainment and a pre-concert talk. County, Calif.—Jan. 20, 2016—Pacific Symphony musicians are taking their instruments out to the local hot spot for a fun evening of hand-crafted music, trivia and signature cocktails during the second installment of Music Mixology. A music-inspired game show, Music Mixology is what happens when a group of classical musicians hijack the local trivia night. Each round, audience members compete by answering music-inspired trivia questions, and the winner gets to choose what the musicians play next. Equipped with more than 27 songs ranging from classical, rock, pop, soundtracks and more, Symphony musicians are prepared to perform the winner's choice live, on the spot, and have a few surprises in store. A hit when it debuted last April at 4th Street Market in Santa Ana, Music Mixology returns to a new neighborhood today, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. at the Boathouse Collective, 1640 Pomona Ave., Costa Mesa. 
Canton Symphony Orchestra to Launch Downtown Classics Series, Today

CANTON, OHIO (January 14, 2016) – After an overwhelmingly positive response to the Canton Symphony Orchestra's (CSO) Rock the 5th Pub Crawl in March of 2015, the CSO is launching a full new series of events in Canton's Downtown bars, restaurants and galleries for 2016.  Downtown Classics lets patrons enjoy performances from small ensembles of Canton Symphony Orchestra musicians in the laid back casual atmosphere of their favorite hot spot.  It's a combination of classic venues, classic food and classic music!  The series is funded in part by a grant from Arts in Stark and the Stark County Convention and Visitors' Bureau.

Inaugurated by the Symphony in September 2006, this magnificent venue—with its exceptional acoustics and beautiful architecture—changed the world of symphonic music forever in Orange County. Both the orchestra and its audiences suddenly felt the ceiling to their musical opportunities open up to limitless possibilities. Wilson Memorial Farmers' Night concert.  Democracy reigns, with all four instrumental families represented in our 2016 Farmers' Night concert!  Winds are featured in Handel's Entrance of the Queen of Sheba, and Mozart's unusual Serenata Notturno adds timpani to a string orchestra. Bass trombonist Gabe Langfur solos in a movement of Chris Brubeck's Trombone Concerto , we premiere a student composition by Montpelier 9th grader Colin Desch, and Haydn's “Morning” Symphony rounds out the program.

'THE WOMAN AT THE WINDOW' Oratorio, About Triangle Factory Fire, to Premiere in LA

The Woman at the Window: The Triangle Factory Fire - a powerful original oratorio with music and lyrics by 85 high school choir students from downtown Los Angeles' Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts based on the horrific 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City in which 146 garment workers, mostly young girls from immigrant families, perished in the worst workplace tragedy in American history until the Twin Towers fell on 9/11 - is being premiered by the students in conjunction with the Los Angeles Master Chorale Chamber Singers in free performances on Thursday, February 4, at noon, and Friday, February 5, 2016, at 7 pm, at the high school's main auditorium.
