CANTON, OHIO (January 26, 2016) - The Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will celebrate the exuberance of youth and the future generation of music makers at its MasterWorks concert, titled "Young at Heart", on February 14, 2016 at 7:30pm at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall adjacent to the Zimmermann Symphony Center (2331 17th Street NW, Canton). The performance, sponsored in part by FreshMark, has many layers of youthful involvement on the program.

Canton native and current Juilliard School of Music scholarship violin student, William Shaub will be the guest soloist and perform several pieces with the CSO. Shaub began violin studies at the age of 3 and had his concerto debut at age 12. A former member of the Canton Youth Symphony, he was still in high school when he auditioned for and was accepted into the Canton Symphony Orchestra by CSO Music Director Gerhardt Zimmermann. He has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, Severance Hall, and Sanders Theatre at Harvard. In addition to performing as a substitute with the New York Philharmonic, he has served as concertmaster of the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra, the Juilliard Orchestra, and led the conductor-less Juilliard Chamber Orchestra. He was honored by The Canton Repository as "Most Interesting Person of the Year" in 2013.

Also joining the CSO on stage will be the Canton Youth Symphony (CYS) Advanced Orchestra. They will perform excerpts of Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite and Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez. The CYS Advanced Orchestra consists of music students who have achieved an advanced level of performing. Membership in CYS is by audition and this year, the Advanced Orchestra has 40 members from various school districts in Stark and surrounding counties. "Performing side-by-side with the professional musicians of the CSO is a wonderful learning experience for these students," notes Lisa Boyer, Director of Education for the CSO, "and having the opportunity with Maestro Zimmermann conducting them is extremely thrilling!"

In addition to the pieces featuring Shaub as violin soloist and the CYS side-by-side, the orchestra will also perform Tchaikovsky's tribute to young love, Romeo and Juliet Overture Fantasy which contains one of the most recognizable musical love themes of all time.

Tickets for the concert range from $25-$45. There are senior, student and group discounts available. Tickets and the full concert season schedule are available at www.cantonsymphony.org, by calling (330) 452-2094, at the Zimmermann Symphony Center - 2331 17th Street NW in Canton - weekdays from 10am-5pm or at the Umstattd Performing Arts Hall box office beginning one hour and fifteen minutes before the performance.
