ChildCare Education Institute® (CCEI), an online child care training provider dedicated exclusively to the early care and education workforce, offers CUR106: STEM in Early Childhood as a no-cost trial course to new CCEI users during the month of September.

Students in the United States continue to lag behind their counterparts in many other developed nations in math and science, even as these subjects become increasingly important in the 21st Century economy and job market. Educators and policymakers are aware of this urgent need and they are raising standards and expectations accordingly. As a result, teachers at all levels will be expected to focus more on STEM-related materials, including early childhood educators who the opportunity and responsibility to help children build the foundational skills for future academic achievement.

This course provides basic information about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education so early childhood educators can promote the development of foundational science and math skills in young children. Course participants will learn why it is important to focus more on STEM and how STEM can be incorporated more effectively across the early childhood curriculum.

"Studies show that early interest in science predicts later success in science, and at an early age children are curious and well?suited to math and science activities," says Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. "This course is about how early childhood educators can help young children build the foundation for future achievement."

CUR106: STEM in Early Childhood is a two-hour, beginner-level course and grants 0.2 IACET CEU upon successful completion. Current CCEI users with active, unlimited annual subscriptions can register for professional development courses at no additional cost when logged in to their CCEI account.
