'Brooklyn' Author Colm Tóibín Returns To The Loft With HOUSE OF NAMES, 3/22

Bestselling, award-winning author of Brooklyn (an Oscar-nominated film) and Nora Webster Colm Tóibín returns to The Music Hall Loft on Thursday, March 22, to discuss his latest novel, HOUSE OF NAMES. His retelling of the Greek myth featuring Clytemnestra and her children is just outn paperback.

The 7pm event includes an author presentation and moderated Q+A, plus a book signing and a meet-and-greet. It will be held at The Music Hall Loft at 131 Congress Street, in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

"I am excited to welcome back Colm Tóibín, one of today's most esteemed storytellers. Not only is he celebrated for his literary works, but also for his projects on Broadway," said Patricia Lynch, Executive Producer of Writers in the Loft and the evening's moderator. "It is rare for a male writer to show such a deep understanding of women and, in HOUSE OF NAMES, he does it again."

HOUSE OF NAMES is a retelling of the Greek myth featuring Clytemnestra, ruler of Mycenae, who murdered her husband Agamemnon upon his return home from the Trojan War.

In the book, Clytemnestra reveals the tragic saga that led to these bloody actions: how her husband deceived her eldest daughter Iphigenia with a promise of marriage to Achilles, only to sacrifice her because he was told it would make the winds blow in his favor and take him to Troy; how she seduced and collaborated with the prisoner Aegisthus, who shared her bed in the dark and could kill; how Agamemnon came back with a lover himself; and how Clytemnestra finally achieved her vengeance for his stunning betrayal.

Colm Tóibín brilliantly inhabits the mind of one of Greek mythology's most powerful villains and gives this extraordinary character new life. The result: we not only believe Clytemnestra's thirst for revenge, but applaud it.

Colm Tóibín is the author of seven novels, including The Master, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; Brooklyn, winner of the Costa Book Award; The Testament of Mary, and Nora Webster, as well as two story collections. Three times shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Tóibín lives in Dublin and New York.

The ticket package for Writers in the Loft: Colm Tóibín on Thursday, March 22, at 7pm, is $30 ($28 members). In addition to a reserved seat, the package includes a copy of HOUSE OF NAMES ($16 paperback), a bar beverage, author presentation, Q+A, and book signing meet-and-greet.
