Naked Shakespeare In The Park Returns With Aphra Behn's THE ROVER

The company that received international media attention for their all-female production of The Tempest and all-male production of Hamlet is returning with its first mixed-gender outdoor play featuring full nudity: a production of The Rover, a popular Restoration comedy by Aphra Behn. The company is thrilled to return with a new production that celebrates body freedom and empowerment, and that showcases the work of a less frequently produced female playwright.

Two powerful New York institutions, Long Island University (LIU) Brooklyn and the renowned theater company The New Group, have announced a new partnership to help train the next generation of great actors. A new B.F.A program in Acting for Theatre, Film and Television, starting in Fall 2018, will be founded on the studio model, where students will study stage acting, voice, and movement under the supervision and guidance of faculty in collaboration with the award-winning The New Group.

The Play Company (PlayCo), led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald and Managing Director Robert G. Bradshaw, today announces the complete cast for Toshiki Okada's Time's Journey Through a Room, marking PlayCo's third collaboration with Okada, translator Aya Ogawa, and director Dan Rothenberg, May 10 - June 10, 2018. This haunting play, set in post-Fukushima Japan, will star three Japanese born performers, all of whom are now based in New York: Yuki Kawahisa (Honoka), Maho Honda (Arisa) and Kensaku Shinohara (Kazuki). The play is both an intimate examination of how we move forward from life-altering events, and a study of how we experience time, asking whether we can ever be alive to the present moment.

BCC Announces Extension & Partnership With Theater In Berlin

After a successful six-week trial run at The Brick Theater in Williamsburg, The Brooklyn Comedy Collective (BCC) is extending its residency at The Brick through the end of 2018. Shows will continue on Thursday through Saturday nights weekly and classes year-round, and the BCC will launch an international partnership with a theater in Berlin, Germany.

This year's festival opens with a rare NY appearance of Homayoun Sakhi, who has established an international reputation as the outstanding Afghan rubab player of his generation. A master of the rubab, a skin-faced lute that is revered as the national instrument of Afghanistan, he performs the music of Afghanistan, which is rich in traditions that span the Middle East, Central Asia and North India. He will be joined by Nitin Mitta, one of the most sought after tabla players of his generation.
