ANOTHER WOMAN'S BABY To Make Its Debut In Brooklyn

By:

Ryan Repertory Company presents Another Woman's Baby, a harrowing exploration of the unexpected and miraculous journey of surrogacy in the Midwest while in your early fifties, June 8-15 at the Harry Warren Theatre at the Ryan Repertory Company.

Told with unwavering honesty and inspiring humor, Another Woman's Baby journeys with award-winning artist/teacher Julie Rae, an enduring feminist, failed rock star, beloved professor, joyous wife, and crazed mom of two boys under 10, as she negotiates the rocky landscape of maintaining her career, her sanity, and her marriage while becoming a first-time mother at age 49 - through surrogacy. Then, she does it again at age 54. A hilarious and moving celebration of the galvanizing ways in which dreams and nightmares can come true.

Baby traces the hard-fought victories and tragic losses of modern surrogacy through Julie Rae's hopeful, fearful, and at times, jaded eyes. The affirming narrative encompasses the heartbreak of loss, the elation of life, and the thin line that casually divides them. Parents and families of every shape, size, and origin will relate to Julie's own unique 20 year-plus odyssey towards motherhood and be captivated by her stark emotional and physical resilience in the face of despair.

After a critically lauded and record breaking run in 2009, Julie Rae returns to the Ryan Repertory Company with the follow up to In Conclusive Woman, her first tale of labored love. Baby completes Julie's journey to parenthood but creates many other questions and paths yet unexplored, leaving the door open for even more emotional, witty, and stirring work from the candid creator of both shows.

Dr. Julie Rae Mollenkamp is a Professor of Theatre and Coordinator of Graduate Studies in the Department of Theatre at the University of Central Missouri. She is the recipient of several regional and national awards, including the National Communication Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Artistic Scholarship and National Leadership, NCA's Excellent in Teaching and Service, and The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Inaugural Road Warrior for Excellence and Diligence in Production Responding.

Strong local talent from across the Midwest have collaborated to bring Another Woman's Baby to Brooklyn: featuring the talents of Dr. Cat Gleason (direction), Brad Carlson (scenic design), Victoria Depew (costume design), and Kayla Helms (stage management).

Another Woman's Baby runs June 8-10 and 11-15 at 7:30pm with performances at 3:00pm on June 9, 10, and 15. There will be a post-show discussion following all 3:00pm performances and the 7:30pm performances on the 12 and 14. The Harry Warren Theatre is located at the Ryan Repertory Company at 2445 Bath Ave. Brooklyn, NY, 11214. Tickets are $20 and $15 for students and seniors.
