Inaugurated during the volatile and transformative late 1960s, the unconventional publication Blueprint for Counter Education introduced the tools for a radical transformation of liberal arts education. A project of Brandeis Sociology Professor and Chair Maurice Stein and his student, Larry Miller, this "classroom in a box" encouraged participants to shape an educational environment from their own lived experiences, bridging disciplinary divides to create a socially engaged mode of learning. Blueprint's open-ended charts mapped a world of ideas, from the avant-garde to the postmodern, in a form that presaged the Internet, allowing participants to chart multiple courses of thinking and discovery that anticipated the prevalence of search engines, social media, and the quick connection of the hyperlink.

Cape Rep Theatre is celebrating its 33rd season with an exciting line up of plays and musicals, all of them Cape Cod premieres, and one world premiere by a local playwright. The Indoor Theater season will open May 9th with the George Furth and Stephen Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along, followed by the world premiere production of The Tuna Goddess, by local theater artist, Jade Schuyler. Next up is the Broadway sensation, Mamma Mia!, music by the beloved super group ABBA and book by Catherine Johnson, followed by the 5-time Tony Award winning Fun Home, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, music by Jeanine Tesori, based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. The season will close with the Cape Cod premiere of Shakespeare in Love, based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard, adapted for the stage by Lee Hall.

The Handel and Haydn Society continues its 2017-18 Season with two performances of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. Conducted by Harry Christophers and narrated by Antonia Christophers, Purcell's exquisite music is made vivid and colorful with ingenious dramatic effects and an entertaining script by Jeremy Sams, creator of the Metropolitan Opera's The Enchanted Island. The result is a fresh-and-fun riff on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as seen through Queen Titania's eyes.

Hub Theatre Company of Boston will kick off its highly anticipated sixth season with the Pulitzer Prize nominated play TRUE WEST by the late Sam Shepard, directed by Daniel Bourque, starring Bob Mussett, Victor Shopov, Robert Orzalli and Maureen Adduci. The show runs Friday, April 13 through Saturday, April 28, 2018 at First Church Boston, 66 Marlborough Street in Boston's Back Bay.  Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 5 pm.
