I hope that it is FINALLY filmed over there. I’m honestly surprised Netflix didn’t do it the first (or second) time.

Would be HBO as they have a relationship already with Jeremy O. Harris. They were trying to do it with the re-opening, but the Omicron variant outbreak scuttled those plans as was too risky an investment at the time with the prospect of cast going down with Covid.

Hope it has a rewrite.  Overrated for us and our friends.

Caught this at the Taper in LA two years ago and didn't care for it; as a black male who has been in several interracial relationships in the past, I had a lot of issues with it.

That said, it'll be interesting to see how it's received in London.

This play strikes me as a piece that will feel extremely dated in five years.

I’m not a huge fan either but it seems like a play that Brits would embrace.

I absolutely loved this play.  The only thing that I didn’t like was the therapist session.  That was really annoying.  Everything else I loved.

That scene was at least a third of the play. How can you love a play but hate a third of it?

While I am happy to hear that this play is getting a West End run, I am curious how British Audiences will react to this play.

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

I wonder if having an extremely famous white guy in the play alongside mostly-unknown people will throw off the calibration at all?

Not that that really matters if the ticket sales are strong enough.

Kit Harington wow!  Props to him to taking on an unconventional role.  I really respect how the guy has fully embraced the stage now that he's done with GoT.

Wow! When Kit Harington was in Henry V in London two years ago, it was sold out.
I can see a good number of Brits buying tickets to this play just to see Kit perform in person.

That was in the 250-seater Donmar. There was no chance that didn't sell out. Something has to bomb terribly to not get good play at the Donmar. This too will sell very well, but sell-out remains to be seen. Emilia Clarke did not manage that.

Agreed. The Brits seem to love plays that feature Americans behaving badly. It might be even more of a hit in London than it wasn’t New York, although it does feel like the particular moment for this play has passed a little bit. I liked it when I read it though.

Yeah when he was doing True West with Johnny Flynn it wasn't selling very well, besides Game of Thrones finished half a decade ago. But I think it will do good business

The funniest part of that weird, racist, white-people-are-triggered article?

"Slave Play, written by Jeremy O Harris, was a huge hit when it debuted in 2019"

Lolzzzzz.

They’re also really leaning into the “most Tony-nominated play of all time” angle, which is hilarious, given that it won zero and opened in an abbreviated season. But hey! Gotta sell tickets to this nothingburger somehow.

I saw the play on Bway as well as the Taper production, and I agree with the poster about 10 comments back-- I was really fascinated by the stories of the actual couples, and really, really hated the therapists' sessions from start to finish. Can't tell if it was the performances (insanely broad) or the writing, but the satire of psychotherapy was utterly beside the point for me. Looking deeply into the ways interracial couples make it work or don't-- that was a rich vein that I thought JOH plumbed with huge style and depth.

I'd more excited about Fisayo Akinade who's been in a bunch of stuff.
