The third Broadway revival of American Buffalo begins previews tomorrow night at the Circle in the Square Theatre, ahead of an April 14 opening night. Written by David Mamet and directed by Neil Pepe, the three-person play stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell, and Darren Criss. American Buffalo will play a limited engagement through July 10.

“Three small-time hustlers want a bigger cut of the American dream. David Mamet’s classic about loyalty and greed stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell, and Darren Criss, under the direction of Neil Pepe. American Buffalo returns to Broadway more explosive and pointed than ever, exposing a timely American truth: the hustle and the con are two sides of the same coin.”

Who’s going?

Saw some pics from the invited dress last night, the set by Scott Pask looks pretty impressive.

Couldn't get a rush ticket this morning, gone in less than a second. Still seats available for tonight So I'll hopefully use the discount code at box office, or maybe they'll go onto TKTS.

Looking at Scott Pask’s set (on his IG) I’d say avoid the first few rows. I’d think it’d be pretty obstructed.

Tonight's show is 40% off at TKTS.

Yeah, the front row looks genuinely terrible for this show based on those pics. I wonder if those will be the rush seats.

I just exchanged the front row tickets we had for this. Now we’re in the third row for the same price and I think we’ll be much happier there. They were great seats for Oklahoma!

Wondering if I should be worried. Have two seats (237 and 239) in Row A for a performance in May. Have never been to this theater. Think the view will be okay from that spot in Row A?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Just wait to hear reports from people who see the show, but, judging from this pic, I think row A should be great. It's row AA that looks like it could be problematic.

A statement from Darren Criss about those who were looking to “stage door” after the show. It’s not happening. (And I’m glad he got ahead of it, even if it won’t necessarily stop all the crowds)

I'm surprised he can function right now given his family's recent loss.

I hope everyone who was there this evening had a great time.

Any reactions yet? 8:00 start time tonight, and the show's official website lists a 1:40 runtime (with an intermission).

I've seen a handful of Mamet plays before (Speed the Plow, Oleanna, The Woods) but this was my first encounter with American Buffalo. I did quite like the play itself although perhaps not as much as Oleanna.

This production though! The acting here was top notch from all three gentlemen, very impressive, and as you can see from the set pictures, it's beautiful. I was totally engaged throughout.

As for seating, difficult to judge. I was sat in the "cheap" seats F402 and thought I had a really good view, especially for the price. I would actually think AA/BB/CC in the 300s would be restricted due to some large props potentially blocking the view, and the majority of the play is definitely played towards the "high 200's" end. Optimal spot is probably B-E in the central 200's. But I certainly wouldn't pass on the 400's for a cheaper option (only $49 with the NYT discount code)

Thank you guys for a quick report. I was able to exchange my tickets for a much better view once I saw the set. A good seat for one show isn't a good seat for another, even in the round.

I'm not a big fan of Mamet in general, but couldn't pass up seeing this cast. Rockwell and Fishburne are a veritable masterclass in how to handle Mamet's dialogue. And although I had been confused by Darren Criss's casting when this cast was announced, he held his own against these two powerhouse surprisingly well. This play FLEW by. The play itself in lesser hands would be a slogfest. I highly recommend it.

I'd hate to be the stage crew resetting the set each night, though.

Did I miss the NYT discount code? Also, great insight on seats!

I don't know about the NYT code, but ABHUD311 probably does the same thing.

For those interested, I saw on Twitter that the understudies are Sean Carvajal, Jordan Lage (a Mamet veteran), and Ray Anthony Thomas

Just picked up two cheap seats for May based on your recommendation. I had been eyeing that section with the price point. Combined with my AMEX discount, only $45 a ticket after fees.

No offense, but hope I don’t see any of these guys in May.

Just bought the 400s for $49 for next week. Thanks so much for this!

Do you if I can use this at the box office without having to pay the fees or only for online/phone bookings?
