Amazing that it’s mid-May and we’re still in a situation where performances are being canceled due to lack of coverage.

Definitely don't think it's due to lack of coverage. They clearly have a good percentage of cast and crew out with COVID. It may not be 100% safe to have a performance where half the cast are covers and swings.

Does anyone know how bad things are at Oratorio for Living Things and Suffs? Obviously getting lottery/rush tickets at this point is almost impossible anyway but with the recently cancelled performances, are they going to finish their runs as scheduled?

Just got an email from Ars Nova: all remaining performances of Oratorio for Living Things are cancelled due to ongoing Covid cases within the company.

The tour of Moulin Rouge (currently in Minneapolis) cancelled last night due to a “non-Covid related illness in the company). I guess I’m confused as to why they would cancel the show altogether if they know it’s not Covid-related. There’s understudies and swings for this purpose.

People can still get other illnesses. If they all ate together and got food poisoning, or there's a laryngitis bug going around, or a bunch of them caught the flu from being on the same bus together, for example, there might simply not be enough human beings in the cast who are well enough to perform.

Aaron C Finley had to fly in from the Broadway production to help with coverage. Which is something considering the Broadway production is also going through a shortage of coverage.

It’s because of Covid. It’s rampant again in the city since relaxing mask requirements. Now I see productions are saying “illness” so their stars don’t have to miss 10 days. It’s still Covid regardless of what they’re calling it.

They don't owe the general public any specifics as an employer giving privacy to their employees.  They are, however, still bound by equity rules that require 10 days of absence after a positive test, or 5 days to return masked.  There is no vast conspiracy.

Oh, but as AMERICANS we must believe there is a conspiracy.  I'm just waiting for the  conspiracy theorists to swoop down on Texas and start calling that a staging - like they did over Sandy Hook (and continue to).

It not anyone's damn business why an actor is out, or a production needs to cancel.  Sure, it sucks when you are a ticket holder - but it's still none of your business.

Heck, in my school, while I'm told when a student has tested positive for covid, no names are released so I can't even think back to see if I've been in close contact with them.  I have 5 classes of students a day - they won't even tell me WHICH class.    So IF I get sick, I, too, will be able to pass it on before I even know I've contracted it.    (Mind you, PERSONALLY I keep my distance and wear a mask when students are in my room - but you see my point: PRIVACY.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I saw from Shoshana Bean’s insta that she’s out for 10 days from Mr Saturday Night because of covid, even though after 5 days she’s now negative. But it means she’s now able to go and see other shows.

I know it’s the Equity rules she must be out for 10 days, but there’s just no logic to the fact that she can’t perform for 10 days but after 5 days she can go see other shows, where she’s packed into a crowded theater. And sure she has to be masked to watch other shows but if she’s actually still contagious then her mask isn’t going to offer a whole load of protection to people sitting near her for 2 hours. If if she’s not contagious, then why can’t she perform, and why does she have to wait 10 days. Make it make sense!!!

*this isn’t a criticism of Shoshana btw, just the rules*

Curious if it is indeed COVID or another illness like a stomach bug sweeping through the cast and crew.

To be honest, Shoshana should not really be going out aside from absolutely necessary activities because she’s still technically contagious even if she’s asymptomatic. Considering her singing would be inhibited by having to wear a mask on stage, not withstanding that her primarily geriatric co-stars are all in a high risk category, there’s a reason why waiting the full 10 days is SUPREMELY important.

She did say she's been testing negative since Sunday, but I know people can go back to testing positive later, also. It's not the greatest look to be out and about. It's also a risk that we're all taking when we see a show, because who knows what the person next to us was thinking.
