Comments like this are why people think theatre is snobbish. 

Trip Cullman is a theatre director, and Halley Feiffer is a playwright. Neko Case is an established musical artist who's branching out into musical theatre, like others before her have. Is there something wrong with that?

Let's just remember while we dream cast that Geena Davis was 34 and Susan Sarandon was 44  when they did the movie, though they were written as the same age. So I'm sure they'll be casting late 30s to early 40s.

Halley Feiffer Is no one to turn up your nose at. I’ve seen several of her productions and loved every one of them. I’m very excited for more people to experience her work!!

The creative team is a dream. Neko Case is one of my faves. Her songwriting is glorious. However, this doesn't scream Broadway to me. Seems like a smaller project, but what do I know.

I know other people have already responded to this post, but I'm so baffled by how you arrived at this reaction. The musical will be written by 2 people: one of whom is an experienced playwright, and one of whom is a professional musician. So 50% the writing team has theatre experience, and 100% of the writing team are established professionals. So how do you get "amateur hour open mic" from that?

Not to mention, there have already been a many non-theatrical musicians who have written musical theatre scores, and most of them have actually been quite good.

I think this could be the perfect casting for a reunion (this time on stage and on Broadway) of Jessie Mueller (as Thelma) and Megan Hilty (as Louise) after Patsy and Loretta!

Also just wanted to add:

It's worth noting that Feiffer and Cullman have worked together a lot. I believe he has been the director of most, if not all of her plays in recent years. So in addition to everything I said in my last post, there will be an added benefit of their years of collaboration in the world of theatre.
