The overall news is great but the headline is false and way oversells what Fauci [one "c"] said. What he said is that, by April, the vaccine will START to be available to everyone, but "He cautioned, however, that it will take 'several more months' to logistically deliver shots to adult Americans, but predicted that herd immunity could be achieved by late summer."
That would be very good news indeed, and it would mean that the new mentality would have time to sink in so folks would start doing things like buying theatre tickets. Of course, "could be achieved" is not a guarantee, but this does make my longstanding prediction of first shows in the fall (still probably more likely to be late than early) viable. Let's hope, remain safe, and remain patient.

Well, the article says “The top US infectious diseases expert said that “by the time we get to April,” it will be “open season, namely virtually everybody and anybody in any category could start to get vaccinated.”
So I just posted what the article says. Of course it will take months to get everyone vaccinated for a variety of reasons but this timeline is much sooner than had been predicted even a month ago.

Can I just say how glad I am that we're now starting to look towards reopening, rather than last year's doom and gloom of a seemingly never-ending lockdown. I know it still might take months and months, but the fact that we're getting better rather than getting worse is a welcome change.
Even if we on the board have disagreements with eachother(myself included in that 'we' lol), in the end we're all theatre fans, and the news of broadway being promised a return is wonderful.

Although April is not that far away, the CDC really should expand the guidelines on who can receive the vaccine now. There are many who are under 65, that have compromised immune systems. Studies have shown that those who are HIV positive and contract covid are more likely to be hospitalized and die.

I am 100% certain you can appreciate that "could start to get vaccinated" and "available to anyone who wants" are materially not the same thing. Hence, the misleading headline. Just admit it and move on. It's no biggie; the ultimate news is good.

1. That what you know to be true does not match what you put in the headline. This would not make a difference except that, as we all know, many people never get past the headline.
2. You misspelled Fauci.
If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone. CNN (as quoted by Sutton) also misleads, and in the other direction. I don't know why people have to rewrite what was actually said, bearing in mind that this is not like guessing what Mike Lee said to a former president on a telephone call; Fauci spoke on national television.

I join you in that hope and I am also more hopeful. I also believe a little bit of expectations management goes a long way so false hopes (e.g., that everyone will be able to walk into the Duane Reade down the block and get vaccinated in April) don't help. I watched Fauci's statement and he never used the world "Could". He said "I would Imagine that by the time we get to April". So CNN didn't directly quote him. And the video of him saying this is in the Post's article.
“I would imagine by the time we get to April, that will be what I would call for, you know, for better wording, open season,” Fauci said. “Namely, virtually everybody and anybody in any category could start to get vaccinated.” That is the direct quote.
Why there is an argument over this is kinda crazy. All articles are basically saying the same thing.
In Jersey it is already open to just about everybody. We can go on the state website or individual healthcare facilities sites and sign up for an appointment.

Not true. In many parts of NJ it is still virtually impossible to get an appointment to get vaccinated. My 79 yo mother with several pre existing conditions has still not bee able to get an appointment and the sign up system is a disaster.

Yup the system is a disaster but we can all sign up. Getting an appointment is hard but is open. That was my point. I am well out of the "guidelines" and am in for an appointment in my area. Don't know if you even saw the problem in Patterson where people were lined up and they decided to go back to people in their 70's and up for 2 days. Open to the rest the rest of the days. It was on the news a few weeks ago. But whatever. And who cares about Sutton's "source". I live here. I follow it. I know.
