Admittedly, I’ve been mentally spiraling a bit today and a little hyper vigilant of any possible symptom post-travel and been glued to CNN, but my friend sent this link to me for a nice de-stressing distraction.

Maybe this belongs on the off-topic thread, but thought we could all use a thread like this.  This plus the Flying Over Sunset previews have been very helpful to me. What does self-care look like to you? Please feel free to share your techniques below. We’re all in this together.

I have a DVR full of Great Performances and Live From Lincoln Center concerts that I haven't watched because I've been actually going out to see live performances. Last night I treated myself to Norma with Sondra Radvanovsky and Joyce DiDonato. I wouldn't go so far as my friend who believes in getting dressed and putting on makeup every day even if you're not going out, but for me, it created a sense of normalcy to be able to watch a show at night again.

Keeping myself sane right now means establishing some semblance of a routine and a feeling of normalcy.

I finally have started putting all my old video camera tapes on DVD's, these old tapes include trips with my daughters when they were little, their dance performances over the years, family weddings etc. My wife is into the "Great British Baking Show" and I have actually watched it and enjoyed it -lol. We have the Disney streaming thing so will watch stuff from there. I have both seasons of SMASH on DVD so I can always revisit that show again -lol.  Finally, I have pulled out my acoustic guitar and started playing again after a long time away from playing.

I've been picking a new cast album per night to listen to on my turntable. Finally making my way through some of the more obscure titles in the collection my grandmother left me. It's a nice way to unwind after a day of teleworking. :)

I’ve been reading and obsessing too much, and my wife is out of town helping take care of my older daughter after jaw surgery. But while I have.novels lined up to read, I also have been picking streaming shows with my other daughter, home from college. She picks shows, I pick shows that the other hasn’t seen.

The only theater thing I started to watch was the filmed production of Into the Woods. The movie was OK but the stage production looks good thus far. I stopped watching, having concluded my daughter would want to see it.

Have you listened to any Gable & Stein?  They're my favorite.  Remember?  Jule Gable and Sidney Stein?

Went to a beautiful state park yesterday with a friend and our dogs. Her dog is very well trained and I feel safe letting my puppy off leash with them and we got to see my puppy swim for the first time. We had a blast and saw a few people on the trail/beach, all grateful to be out in nature. Might go back there a few times next week given that my work has shut down for the next week and possibly next two weeks!

1) Turn off the news.

2) Turn off social media.

3) Turn off the internet.

(it may amaze you how just little you actually NEED those things in your life...)

4) Meditate.

5) Take long baths.

6) Sleep.

Don't worry the hell of everyday life will return in no time x

Self-care so far today:

Watched the rebroadcast of last year’s CBS News Sunday Morning 40th anniversary special
Talked to my mom on the phone
Now watching Thursday and Friday’s episodes of Days of Our Lives. Never thought I’d be so grateful for the silliness of Dr. Rolf’s schemes.

Miles, I watch Days Of Our Live everyday too. My favorite form of self care:)

I work from home so not much is really changing for me except that I can't really go out at night and all of my travel has been postponed.

My gym is still open for the time being with very light attendance so it's been easy to go to a Zumba class and spread out around the room. I do foresee it closing this week though in which case I will try to do at least 1 daily walk outside and do some weights inside.

I plan to watch some Broadway content such as Newsies and Encore on Disney+ and Springsteen and American Son on Netflix(never saw it with Steve Pasquale).

Doing my best to stay fit and healthy as I prepare for heart surgery in two weeks.

And remaining upbeat and positive while I watch beautiful videos like this of our friends in Italy.

I keep forgetting about American Son. Like you, when I saw it Pasquale was out.

Yesterday and today I watched the 1970 BBC miniseries "Six Wives of Henry VIII" with Keith Michell, Annette Crosby, Dorothy Tutin, Angela Pleasence, and more. Six 90-minute episodes; all quite good.

Going to a the very empty gym in our building; debating whether to cancel my weekly session with my trainer.

I still have to work as I work for the USPS so that takes up most of my life yet. While I'm not at work I'm in my bedroom as usual watching tv and YouTube videos and listening to cast recordings. Isolated from the other 2 in my house that currently have the flu.

Hi, I'm Val. Formerly DefyGravity777(I believe)

Thank you.

And thanks to jagman for posting the link to the virtual museums.  Now that the Louvre in Paris is closed, I thought this video (interesting in its own right) was a true reflection of our world today.

Like many, I've been sucked into the news/social media black hole this past week, and I've had to extricate myself from it all for my mental health's sake. This is what I'm doing for self-care:

- Limiting my time online to an hour a day at most.

- Limiting my intake of news to the bare minimum. I already know I'm basically holed up for the next two weeks, and so there's realistically not much I need to concern myself with for the time being.

- Viewing this as a respite/retreat. If you think of it, this is a rare, unprecedented "staycation" for those of us who have the luxury of working from home.

- Exercising at home, and taking walks outdoors in nature when I can. I think so long as you avoid being around too many other people, being outdoors is low risk for viral transmission.

- Playing guitar and catching up on my reading. (Our local library system is also closing for two weeks at least, and have suspended all fees, so I took the opportunity to check out a bunch of nature books, though I also have plenty of unread books at home.)

- Planning to watch the Met broadcasts this week!

- Re-potting and tending to my houseplants. I went to Lowe's and bought a couple new houseplants as well earlier in the week that I have to put in pots and find a home for. A bit of nature in the home.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone.

We redid our workout room and we’re loving it right now.

I’ve done a little detailing of my car and still have a lot more to do.

Keeping up with friends/family via phone instead of our usual texts, lol.

We finally got around to starting Schitt’s Creek on Netflix and that’s been just what we’ve needed right now!

***I am loving the Flying Over Sunset thread

Wow this week has been rough. I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that my spring trip is likely not going to happen and oh what a lineup of 9 shows I had. Seeing as I’m a first responder I still have to go to work and also can’t reschedule vacation time that is booked in December for the following year. I guess it means I will have to plan an epic trip next year and eat the $400 flights as I won’t be likely able to use the credit before it expires in September.

God bless smart TVs with yoga on YouTube and the fact that we are having a nice stretch of weather so I can get out on my road bike or put in my broadway mix and go for a run.

For some reason I have dangerous and difficult times from Chess stuck in my head.

i'm in a weird situation.  i have been out of work since February 2019 and spent last year being depressed and not really leaving my apartment.  i finally started to get my act together and get out again, and now am back to being depressed and staying in.....

but, the universe has an interesting sense of humor...  I applied for a job at the census department, and they are still going forward with hiring , it seems... got a call (today, yes, Sunday) for a phone interview.

and as i posted on another thread, got a summons for jury duty for March 30th....
