I love Be More Chill but it's done horrible over the past two months and I wouldn't be surprised if it closes by labor day. I think they should close it and that will get more people to see it even though they will try and keep it open for as long as possible

They should close it and move it to New World Stages.

We literally have this same talk, exact text too, in every grossings chat ever, along with King Kong, Waitress, and Beautiful. We all think those shows are closing soon, we get it, it's only a matter of time, what's the point of saying it every week?

I think touring would be great since most Bmc fans can't get to new york and they would for sure see it when it comes to their city. I think touring both in the us and international should be the future of be more chill.

I just wish they could have gone back in time, enjoyed the success they had last year, and decide to move it to New World Stages. What a disaster.

Agreed. It could have continued its sold out cult following off-Broadway.

They should close up shop on Labor Day and then tour. It would be a bit more successful if the original cast could tour, but Will Roland should move on to something better. He deserves better than this disaster. It's bleeding money, and the Prom just announced so they could fly under the Proms radar if their rabid fanbase doesn't get in the way of quietly closing.

Just a correction to the others saying schools out so grosses shuold but up- as a New York kid in high school, school isn't out until the 25th, which is the day of my last Regent. New Jersey's out only a day earlier.

Most districts set their own calendar, its not determined by the state - which only sets the parameters. The south has been out for a month.

BMC will close when its producers have had enough.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

NYS Regents can only be taken at a specific time, which is posted by the state. So the MIddle Schools in NYC are out, but not the High Schools. Other states are different, and Northeast tends to run late on a general note even without regents.

I said MOST.

I grew up in the NE, went to school in the NE and TEACH in the NE. I'm already done with school. Not all schools take mandated exams like the Regents. Our mandated exams, for example, happen 3 different times during the school year - in March, May and early June. I know people in Jersey, CT, RI and MA that are done.

I do think it will close during the summer but I think it’d do really well on a tour!

Will Roland has stated that he would love to play someone in 1776, and they're doing that revival with Diane Paulus...if the show closes, could he possibly end up in the revival?

He could. But it isn't very difficult to get actors to say they want to do things... and unless you're an above the title name, no one is going to pivot on anything like that. Does Diane's vision of 1776 include someone like Will Roland? That is what will decide things.

Touring is often even more difficult than having a Broadway run, hence why so many tours fail to materialize.

Honestly, it's better for BMC to cut its losses and just license. That's where it'll succeed. Schools, community theaters, and smaller professional theatres will do this in droves.

I feel like we will be getting a closing notice sooner than later. I feel like no one is actually flocking to see the show. There are literally tickets that have been on Stubhub for the past few days, for this Saturday’s evening performance, for $9.00, and nobody seems to want them.

Isn't BMC the rare show where licensing never stopped being available even during the Broadway run?

The main difference is that the BMC available for licensing is the original, Two Rivers version.  It doesn't have a lot of the updated lyrics or the new Act I finale.  I could see BMC offering two versions of the show after it closes (the Two Rivers version and the Broadway version) - it would be interesting to see which one people gravitate towards.

Based upon what, exactly?  Most tours are booked as part of subscriptions. Subscribers are overwhelmingly 60+ and the houses are mostly 2000+ seats.
Looks pretty inhospitable to me.

Now, it may have a great life regionally. But a tour??

I’m sorry I think I read that wrong—$9?????? Oh my goodness.

The problem with BMC is that it's made for a very specific age range - old enough for the show to be appropriate, and young enough to empathize with the high school characters.  A lot of the people in that range liked the show off-Broadway, but haven't been particularly impressed by the new lyrics; that negative word-of-mouth has discouraged people who are on the edge from going; and the people who wanted to see the Broadway production have already seen it.  Add that to all the other shows that market to teenagers, like DEH and Mean Girls, and the show was doomed from the get-go.  Its best option right now would be to tour so that the teenagers who are still interested and couldn't convince their parents to travel across the country for a show that got bad reviews can actually see it at a reasonable price.  (I'm assuming that the StubHub resale tickets will probably stay on the cheaper side.)

It's likely that the Paulus version might be gender swapped - I have a former student that is in the process of auditioning for Paulus and it's not for either of the traditional female roles.

Oh, that would be really cool!  I would love to see a gender-swapped 1776.  (And add my name for Will Roland as Abigail Adams. Be more chill when will it close )
