If it does get Tony nominations, it is going to be quite a downer on social media that night for a lot of people.
That said, if George won a Tony (although it would be in featured, unlike the exasperated post putting him in the best actor category above), I wouldn't be upset at all.

Not for nothing, but a few weeks ago a ton of people were swearing up and down that this wasn't going to come to Broadway..and look where we are now. I'm not saying it'll for-sure be a hit, but hey, you never know.

Okay, I'll take that. But I do recall quite a few people aggressively shutting down any ideas of it ever possibly going to Broadway.
I'm no Be More Chill stan, but I think it may last maybe a good 2 years. With some revisions of the choreography and cast, it could probabbbllllyy do well.

This show is sort of uncharted waters, given that the audience sort of self-generated online.
I saw it without knowing what i was signing onto on Sunday afternoon, and really enjoyed myself. I had two friends who read the show description and immediately bailed saying it wasn't for them.

Exactly!
I read the synopsis on Wikipedia and thought to myself "...what the ****." When I actually saw it, i really did enjoy it. I went home and downloaded Michael In The Bathroom and Smartphone Hour because I couldnt get them out of my head.
It's def. something new and uncharted. I don't see any big Tony noms (minimal set, bad dancing) but maybe score and featured actor..?

I'm honestly a little frightened of what could happen if (likely) this doesn't do well at the Tony's. It was pretty bad last year and neither Spongebob or Mean Girls had quite this level of social media presence.

Has the Lyceum been refurbished? Last time I was there was for Scottsboro Boys and my seat was broken no armrests and the seat itself was broken. They did not reseat me.

... What event could happen that could be so bad? #Tonys2019IsCancelled?? If you think a fan will blow up the stadium, just like these fans can't afford to buy tickets to the show nor the Tonys, they can't afford to build a bomb. Please enlighten us.

the hubbub / news of this transfer actually got me to listen to the recording yesterday for the first time. i thought it was okay, not riveting or gorgeous music or anything. i did find the many references to attempting suicide and porn a little worrisome due to the impressionable young fans. the whole bit about Mountain Dew (Code) Red being discontinued in the 90’s is also just... not correct, it still exists. good luck to them with the transfer!
edit: huh i just googled, apparently there was something called Mountain Dew Red available only in Alabama back in the 90s... who knew!

I was shocked when I listened and heard the porn line literally in the first 2 minutes of the show but that actually made me like the show even more. The fact that he actually squeezes out lube too adds shock value. I can dig it.

I'm assuming Waffle was referring to the frankly horrendous levels of vitriol spewed towards The Band's Visit from the hyper-obsessed fans of Spongebob and Mean Girls. No, they weren't going to blow up the theatre, but there was a lot of cruelty spamming social media that was pretty gross to weed through, and I'm sure wasn't much fun if any of the performers who were referenced saw it (Katrina Lenk was the main target, if I remember correctly, and the stuff the "stans" of the other shows were saying about her was downright disgusting).

I'm listening to the OC cast album for the first time right now and I stifled a laugh when the first lyric I ever heard was I'M DOWNLOADING PORN. My favorite line so far is THE DRUGS ARE FROM JAPAN. The songs are indeed fun and I'm already in for a interesting ride.

I'm confused by all the vitriol towards fans of this show. When I saw it, there were a lot of dedicated fans. They were excitedly chattering about the show beforehand. They rushed out to line up (in an orderly fashion) for signatures after curtain call. They cheered at appropriate times in non-hysterical ways. They're teenagers who are very excited. Their behavior was, to me, adorable. I saw more gonzo audience reactions at Hello, Dolly. They seem to be earning spite mostly by nature of being young.
And I'll add this: I really didn't like the show. At all. "Michael in the Bathroom" is a good song. Everything else I found contrived or irritating. But if the kids are loving it and getting more into theater because of it? Awesome. Good on them.

Agreed. We of the older generation of theater are doing a disservice if we chase away and bully the upcoming new technology / social media generation. Are there some annoying young people out there who are fans of Be More Chill? Of course. There are also some annoying not-so-young people on these boards that don't like Be More Chill or its fans. Hopefully we don't judge an entire group of people based on the extreme outliers.

I'm only going to assume it's because they are so aggressive online? Or maybe people are using as the Mean Girls fans as an example of how they would act? I'm confused as well.
From just about every report on here regarding the off-broadway showing, the fans seem very respectful.
