So they’ve added in Boho Days…wonder if they restored any other songs.

Some of those shots of Andrew from behind really look like Jon. Wow. I think it’s the hair.

I didn’t really have any strong evocative feelings from the trailers and that’s probably in large part to not being overly familiar with the source material. I’m still excited to have another new musical film on my roster for this year though

Same here - but it already looks like it will pass the low bar set by Rent with flying colors.

Meaning it won't be an absolute dumpster fire?

Some people are saying that the teaser hides the fact that it's a musical, but "Boho Days" is sung and the other shots indicate the musical numbers. This isn't the marketing of Sweeney Todd 2007 guys.

Boho Days looks like people drunkenly/happily singing at a party… If someone saw this trailer and didn’t know the source material, they’d have know idea this is an actual musical film. They’d think it was just a movie about a guy writing music with diegetic scenes of people “making music” a la “A Star Is Born” etc. . (We’ll see how they market it in the future.)

Always thought it was odd people saying that about the Sweeney Todd trailer. It IS mostly non-musical, but halfway thru Depp sings about :25 seconds of Epiphany. (“VIIIIIN-GINCE!&rdquoLin to direct film adaptation of Tick Tick Boom (Then it does go back to regular dialogue)

All I can say is that the actors better be good singers. It is what made the original off Broadway production which made Raul Esparza a star. If the singing is not top notch the show suffers.

I love the trailer! I have really high hopes for this. I don't think it will be a Last Five Years situation because unlike that, they've got a new screenwriter credited and there's a lot more potential to open the script up from its three-person musical origins (which had already been opened up from the one-man musical before it). I've also just seen that (as well as Dear Evan Hansen) Steven Levenson was the showrunner on Fosse/Verdon, where it was also clear that the writers understood theatre people.

I'm not too worried about Andrew Garfield's singing voice, as long as it's decent. Normally I'm ready to complain about weak singers cast in movies, but... this is an intimate musical about a writer. The emotions and drama aren't dialled up much from real life. Actual impressive belting like in Raul's performance might have felt out of place.

Genuine question: does the risk of a missold musical even apply to a Netflix movie? They rely so much on real word of mouth anyway. And it's not like people will be storming from their seats because they paid money for a ticket.

This movie does indeed have strong talent behind it and the streaming juggernaut Netflix is the perfect home for a smaller musical film like this. I think it would be cool to release the movie in either October or November; so that way, there is space between Dear Evan Hansen and West Side Story's release dates.

I wonder if LMM will include a new derivative rap song nobody asked for?

According to this recent tweet, "Expect fall festival love for Miranda’s feature directorial debut. Rumor is the Netflix release plays. Plus, we’re hard-pressed to see how SAG members will be able to resist the surprisingly snappy singing talents of Andrew Garfield."

According to IMDB, the official runtime is 1 hour and 55 minutes and it's rated PG-13 for some strong language, some suggestive material and drug references.

The kids today go APE over their "rap songs." If I were Lin, I'd have somebody freestyle the ingredients of a deluxe omelette in the diner scene. #RapSongsRule

The film adaptation of the late Jonathan Larson's tick, tick… BOOM!—which marks Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial debut—will arrive in select theatres November 12, prior to dropping on Netflix November 19.

It's nice that they chose November to release the movie; I'm really excited for this one and West Side Story in comparison to the other movie musicals coming out very soon.

I'm eager to see this, even though I've never seen a live production of this one. The cast looks great, though.

Are we sure he won’t cast himself?

I really doubt this, Lin isn't an egoist. Unlike some people he knows that just because he's involved in a project doesn't mean it all has to be about him. Something I have a lot of respect for

Everyone can feel free to laugh at me responding to a comment I am just realizing is three years old. Some how I missed finding out about this film until now

Damn, they sound great!!! Do we know what the deal is with the character Roger? Joshua Henry sang some of the lines typically sang by Michael - has the role been split into two?
