I'm ready for 96% of you to turn up your nose and scorn me. But I am SO here for this, LOL. Do you think Britney is eyeing a residency like Springsteen is performing at the moment? She is wrapping up her Vegas show at the end of 2017.
PLEASE OH PLEASE let this happen. I haven't been able to afford getting out to Vegas to see her and I would love to have her either do a New York residency or at least tour along the East Coast. GODNEY CAN YOU HEAR US?
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
I know the Times Sq theater is probably too small to be enticing, but how fun would it be if they turned it into a concert venue and could do long stints.
I'm sorry but she is suited to Vegas and casinos. With the best vocalists in the world gracing Times Square stages, I can't see people forking out top dollar to see a lip-sync show for multiple years. I consider a NYC residency in a Broadway theatre reserved for vocalists who actually sing live. I'm a Britney fan, but she'd be out of her element. On Broadway, you want to see an intimate and rare performance from a vocalist, not a blow through lip sync greatest hits show.

Oh please.
Id love to see this. Britney is such an amazing talent. I would also love to see Celine bring her show to broadway, as well.

I grew up during the BSB, *NSYNC, Britney, and Christina pop era, but I’d have to agree with Betty, I have no desire to see this woman lip sync on a Broadway stage.
I saw her in Vegas and sure she lip-synchs, but she also dances full-out, giving you 100% and is a true performer. Unlike, say, Selena Gomez who lip-synchs - poorly, I might add - and doesn't dance or emote or ... anything.
I'd hardly call this the trashiest thing to be on Broadway... and who even said it would be on Broadway? There are plenty of other venues.
Saw her in Vegas and would see her on Broadway too!!!! I have a feeling it is more likely that she will be replacing Billy Joel’s MSG residency though...
I don't see all the hate? I mean, Christine's big money note in Phantom is pre-recorded. Who cares. Laura Bell Bundy rarely hit the "money note" in "So Much Better," etc. It's live theater. A lot of the time it's great, but what you hear on the recording and what you see in person are usually vastly different. If she puts on a show, which she does, then who cares. I mean we've got "Escape to Margaritaville" and "Summer" coming to Broadway. Let alone a "Spongebob" musical. Artistic integrity has left Broadway a long time ago.
First of all, I'm not hating. Let's set the record straight. It's sad that someone voicing a different opinion is hating nowadays. I'm a fan of Spears and have been since she began. Celine on Broadway. Without question. She's a vocalist. Also, citing the jukebox and musicals based on shows doesn't justify bringing someone who lip-syncs an entire show to Broadway. Last I checked Spongebob Actors are all singing live. Also, a few pre-recorded money notes does not equate with lip synching a full show. Singers who don't sing-the appeal escapes me. Brit does less and less choreo with each passing year.
Im happy for those who would be jazzed by this, but I wont spend money on people who don't sing live. Also Britney may says she sings live, but she's not. She may be making sounds into her mic, but thats not what comes out.

Have you seen her Vegas show? She dances full out for 90mins. She's not "dancing less and less..." And you can hate all you want, that's fine. I just don't see why her being on Broadway would be such a giant issue. But, in regards to her "residency" I don't think it would be on Broadway in the first place. I think it would be more like Atlantic City or something. I WISH it would be at Stage 42 considering it's such a great space that no one uses, but at 499 seats, I don't think it's big enough to entice.
You can love someone, be a fan of, and still buy their music. I am all of those. But I will certainly not be attending any future Britney concerts. Been to four in the past. Regardless of what she stated in that interview, she does not sing live. At least give the audience one song sung live. She lip syncs and isn't really any good at it. I don't care how good she looks and how well she dances, at least make an effort to sing at least one song. On a related note. I saw Janet Jackson in concert, sixth row, (my closest ever) last week. She looked great and danced like she was 20. But she also lip synced the majority of the show and quite badly. On the other hand, I just saw Katy Perry, Sunday, and I am pretty sure most of the concert was sang live. I might be wrong. I certainly didn't know that Dolly Parton lip synced until someone on this board provided a clip. Bruce Springsteen belongs on Broadway....Britney does not.
I would probably end up seeing Britney in New York, but please, oh please, let her take some other theatre/stage/space than Broadway. The real estate is just slim pickings, and this would be wasted space for so, so long.
Her Vegas show may be a cash cow, but it's a hot steaming mess. She doesn't sing one note live and it's mostly hairography and slutty, odd-fitting costumes. Her backup dancers do the heavy lifting.
And this is coming from someone who's gotten his tix comped and has suffered through not only her show multiple times, but two meet & greets.
I'd bet the farm she's HIGHLY medicated based on how she comes across in person.
As to the lip sync talk, most of them do it at one point or another. They at least sweeten the existing vocal.
Celine Dion has used money note click tracks for years: She no longer sings most of the big notes, relying on a good sound board operator. If you've seen her on tour or in Vegas, it's clear that most of the large notes are crystal clear and always identical, sounding nothing like what she's doing live in other parts of the show.
Saw the show 3 times in Vegas. It's a really great, fun night out. I am amazed the age range she hits. There were more over 40 than I imagined and more under 20. I don't think she works in New York. I've seen how people are on this board, I can't imagine people in New York embracing her (which is weird because theyve embraced spongebob smh).
