An 8 p.m. performance on January 14. This must be a little disappointing to people who bought tickets to the matinee that day thinking it would be her final turn as Dolly...

Since people kept on saying this will never happen, I won’t trust people who say they aren’t filming the show when it’s dark.

It's her final day in the role. Unless she can't walk she's going to be there.

Isn't this a second Actors Fund performance the production has done? There was one with Donna Murphy as well.

While I’m sure it’s disappointing for people who purchased tickets to what was going to be her final performance, this will be raising so much money for a great organization and I think that’s wonderful.

I don't see the 8 p.m. performance listed on Telecharge. Is this not open to the public?

For once, can I just not be just bitter? I already gave Actors Fund $1k this year. :)

Yes, it's very disappointing  I had tickets to Bette's "final" performance on 1/14/2018 at 2:00 pm and also Jason Mraz's "final" Waitress performance that evening at 7:00 pm.  Now it looks like it won't be the final performance for either.

Yes, but they could also do it... any other Sunday night? Bette Midler's Final HELLO, DOLLY! Performance Will Benefit the Actors Fund

I wish this benefit had been scheduled for the Sunday evening before. I bought my tickets to the January 14th matinee back in April.  Bummer.

That's pretty infuriating... now I am going to have to get tickets for the 8pm performance... I don't supposed there's anyway to get a refund for the 2pm show is there? Or does anyone know if I can resell my tickets and breakeven?

Thanks!

Why do you HAVE to?  Couldn't you still see the 2PM performance and pretend like it's her last performance??

Sure I could, I could also go tonight and pretend it's the last performance... I could also just listen to the music and pretend I'm there... lol joking aside. I purposely wanted to see what may be Bette's last ever performance on a Broadway stage. I am coming from out of town specifically for this and specifically bought tickets to her supposed last performance. So if its feasible for me to get rid of my 2pm tickets and buy the 8pm show I want to do so.

Cheapest ticket for that performance will be $250, most likely in the back of the Balcony. If you're willing to pay most likely more than what you paid for your original tickets, they're being sold here at a later date:

Not exactly sure if Telecharge will take your tickets back, but you'd most definitely be able to find someone to buy them off you.

I realize that this might provide scant consolation, but in the old days, there was inconsistency as to whether an Actors Fund performance constituted an "official" performance or not. That's why you'll see variances in the listed runs of certain shows, depending on the source (always a source of annoyance to me), eg. The Happiest Girl in the World, 97/98; Sail Away, 167/168; Tenderloin, 216/217. I don't know if the Actors Fund performance is figured into a show's run nowadays, but using the older standard, you could still maintain that you saw the last "official" performance.

In any case, this is a disappointing turn of events. I wonder why that Actors Fund performance couldn't have been scheduled earlier.

I hope these circumstances won't dampen your enjoyment of the matinee performance. I'm sure it will be a magical theatrical moment in its own right.

This is so frustrating and upsetting for all of us who purposely said "what the hell, it's her last show. We're paying A LOT of money but we'll be witnessing history." Now we're saying "what the hell" in a completely different context. And I just booked by airline tickets two days ago! Why can't they do this the Sunday before, out of respect for all the people they KNOW spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars expecting to see her in what could very well be her very last performance on a Broadway stage.

I have not had good luck at first with tickets to closing shows. I got tickets for what was supposed to be the closing show for HAIRSPRAY, only to have the date moved. I can't remember if it was moved up to January 4th, 2009 or moved back, but I do remember it being easy to refund our tickets and buy new tickets for the new closing date. And more recently, the producers of KINKY BOOTS added an evening show the closing day of the show's run in Toronto. But they alerted everyone who had tickets to the matinee show that the evening show was added as the final show. I actually ended up with much better seats for the same price.

UGH.

This is a good money-making scheme. By making it the very very last performance they know they can get keen fans to buy tickets at prices they wouldn’t otherwise have bought. God, this whole revival has been a cash cow. I mean it’s all thanks to one lady only of course, so she deserves all the credit she can get - but still.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I totally understand all disappointment, but I think it's pretty obvious why the performance is that night. They'll be able to sell out those $10,000 tickets easily, since it is her final show. If it had been a different performance, there'd possibly be much more hesitation to buying those tickets. But yes, this is an unfortunate situation that is pretty disrespectful to people who purchased tickets to the expected final performance of Bette.

It's Scott Rudin. Disrespectful is his middle name, isn't it?
