Phew! That was an abysmal production. And pretty badly received across the board, no?

This will be the year of the revival. While The Band's Visit will likely be the cream of the crop in terms of new musicals, the Revivals will take home the most awards. My Fair Lady, Carousel, Once on this Island, and potentially Sweet Charity (and possibly even A Funny Thing...) will all be hard competitors. The actors in these five will likely have better shots at the acting Tonys than any of the new musical actors. People like Katrina Lenk may get nominations, but no wins. My prediction, as of today, is that Sutton Foster wins actress (for the third time since 2000, would be the only actor to win the same award thrice in that timeframe), Josh Gad wins actor, My Fair Lady wins revival, and The Band's Visit takes home best new musical.

Also, Jessie Mueller will be nominated in her 4th consecutive even year. She was nominated in 2012, 2014, 2016, and will be in 2018. It looks like EYBS has transferred from the San Francisco Giants to Jessie Mueller.

Am I missing something? I thought his whole thing about playing Pseudolus last night was a joke about "acting." ??

I'm biased because it's arguably my favorite show, but I really do hope that they knock the Once On This Island revival out of the park. The material could easily generate a great Leading Actress contender, and some quality Featured performances. And I heard they're doing all new orchestrations, which could really be amazing with that gorgeous score. Here's hoping!

Yup. If/when this gets announced, this is probably the surest bet.

I thought that TV stars aren't welcomed on Broadway?

I'd be surprised if Amber takes this role for two full years in a row, maybe they will giver her a break (there's no way she won't be in the Broadway production) and put the revival to next season? Maybe.

Even though Carousel is one of my all time favorite musicals, the revival I'm most looking forward to next season is My Fair Lady. Having seen Bartlett Sher's productions of South PacificThe King & I, and Fiddler on the Roof, I really think he's a genius when it comes to reviving timeless classics.

The reason I'm not as excited for Carousel is because while I did like Jack O'Brien's touring production of The Sound of Music a lot, his track record on Broadway has been very inconsistent as of late. Plus, I feel the upcoming revival will have a lot to live up to with the last revival from 1994 being so well-loved (and winning Audra McDonald the first of her many Tony Awards).

I'm playing Thread Police, as this one was first and spelled correctly.

No grand opinions. Joshua Henry is awesome, but I agree with Jeffrey that the last revival will be a tough one to beat. My wife dragged me to see it on tour decades ago and I still remember the striking visuals.

The Band's Visit is such an early favorite, but something - something - will probably surprise in the spring and threaten or beat it.

No New York trip for me next year, so I'm kind of hoping it's not a great season, or that anything great is popular enough to stick around.

"Sondheim's new show?
Joe Mantello, the Tony Award-winning director behind such hits as Wicked, Take Me Out and Assassins has a new musical on the horizon, with Stephen Sondheim and David Ives that celebrated the pin-sharp and frosty humor of Luis Bunuel's films, namely, the two that took vicious swipes at the bourgoisie in the setting of the dinner party, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and The Exterminating Angel.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Disagree loved it. Best performance Sutton Foster has ever given. The reviews were mostly just sexist.

Based on the rehearsal footage alone... Frozen is going to be hard to compete with.

Madonna, what are you talking about? From all the talk, it sounds like it's what we all feared it would be, a cash grab with no substance. Unless that was sarcasm. I came on her actually to ask if Katrina Lenk's character will most likely be considered leading or featured? (Haven't seen the show yet, but have my tickets) From what I've seen from her, she is simply captivating and really hope she'll be able to win. Leading actress might be a lot tougher this next year, with My Fair Lady and Jessie Mueller, but it's about time another original role won in the leading actress category. Not counting Carole King (which is technically original, but still a well known character) it hasn't happened since Diana for Next to Normal.

I wonder if they will re-add Best Special Theatrical Event and have Michael Moore, Bruce Springsteen and John Leguizamo compete.

Mr. Moore, is worthy of a category all to himself. Propriety prevents me from naming it.

I was looking through old Tony nominations and I noticed that LaChanze was in the Featured Actress category when she was Ti Moune in Once On This Island, so would this put Hailey Kilgore in the Featured Actress category?
