Before you post something snarky, at least learn to spell your subjects names.

Its Lea Michele NOT Lea Michelle.

Its Barbra (Streisand) NOT Barbara (Streisand).

Live it. Learn it. Love it. Suck it. F**k it.

This thread is a joke.

But... I must say...

NOPE. Because I haven't seen play Fanny. And neither have you. And neither has anyone else.

So, no, in fact I am NOT sick of her.. not quite yet :)

She's only half-Jewish and it's on her dad's side so she's technically not Jewish at all.

Why is this a joke... I am just sick of hearing her name
Barbra is Barbra ...I would think people would remember that she did not sound anything vocally like Fanny Brice
so why Lea is #1 because she sound like Barbra is strange
A new sound would be great

There's me thinking the show had opened, come out of previews and we'd all seen Lea Michele play the role...

So if you are so "sick" of it...why would YOU bring up the subject? I haven't noticed another thread about her here in a few days.

Do I see her as Fanny Brice? Not really. Would it be the end of theater as we know it if she were cast? Not at all. All the Gleeks would flock to the theater and perhaps would create a whole generation of theater-loving people.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Oh yeah, I am so very sick of a performance that hasn't happened and may not happen at all. Further more, how dare she say a couple times that she would like to be given the opportunity to play the role, especially when directly asked what roles she would like to play. Why on Earth did anyone allow a Broadway star, who happened to make it on a hit TV show, sing a classic show tune on the Tony Awards? My goodness, what is the world coming to? Someone should really try to stop this sort of thing from happening.

Totally agree. I think it's a joke for anyone to say Lea Michele is the next Barbra. I can't think of anyone on Broadway that can carry the show, even Leslie Krizter (as much as i love her). There best bet is to hopefully find an unknown.

Quick, check if the sheets are missing. Anti-Semites assemble.

This is one of the most disturbing and anti-Semitic threads I have ever read on this site. A few of you guys should be ashamed of ypurselves.

Why go for an unknown? Unless they cast a "star" name the average tourist is not going to know the difference between an unknown and somebody with some experience, like Leslie Kritzer, for example. To those tourists somebody like Leslie is an "uknown" name.

If they want this to sell they need to cast someone big. Whether or not it should be Lea Michelle or not, I do not know. However, they have to have someone well known to everyone, not just the theatre crowds, if they want this show to be successful and have a healthy run.

Not that this is a very large sampling of the population, but I do a weekly poll on my theatre blog and this week I asked who should play Fanny in the revival. Lea got very few votes, with the majority going to Leslie Kritzer, Idina Menzel, and "unknown actress".

ok seriously, i understand being sick of Lea Michele, I understand if you dont want to see her as Fanny Brice, I understand if you are offended that she is compared to a legend like Streisand, I understand if you just flat out dont like her but I think is totally unfair/false to say she has no talent.

I have no idea if Lea can play Fanny Brice. I just know she can do a halfway decent imitation of Streisand.

I have no interest in seeing a Streisand impersonator.

I've only ever seen her on the Tony's, and she did an average Streisand imitation. Nothing distinctive.

But she's a big TV star on that "Glee"-thing, isn't she? So a small number of teens and queens will line up to go. Are we all sick of Lea Michelle as Fanny Brice

Bryan2, I do believe you comment about her "funny nose" is what makes you come off as rather antisemitic in your original post. For centuries the size and shape of a Jewish person's nose has been the subject of antisemitic jokes and propaganda. Charles Dickens even gave Fagin a long hooked nose with that intent. So when you say "Just because she is Jewish, and has a funny nose" all in one sentence, surely you can see how that may be interpreted as being rather antisemitic, whether it was your intent or not. I my self didn't read it that way, but i can certainly see how others can.

Even if you are not antisemitic, I can see how you might also come off as a bit foolish. If you are truly sick of hearing about the possibility of Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, why did you bother starting yet another topic on the subject for everyone to discuss to death? I would think that someone who is sick of the idea would just let it go and hope that it will fade into memory, as things quickly do here.

The lyrics in FUNNY GIRL say "Is a nose with deviation such a crime against the nation?" Therefore, it is correct to hope that the actress cast in the role would not have a cute little button nose. There is nothing Anti-Semitic about it.

Didn't say there was, in fact I clearly said that I did not read it that way, but can certainly see how some could.

I, personallly, was turned off by her "Don't rain on my parade" rendition at the Tony awards...I thought it was exaggerated and choppy.

To answer the original question: no. Mainly because I don't think it's anything to get bitchy about.

Lea Michele is indeed talented. I'm pretty sure it's how she ended up on Broadway (Drama Desk nominee) and starring in a wildly popular TV series (Golden Globe nomination). I mean, it's not like she Anna Nicole Smith'd her way into the roles unless she has some multi-millionaire octogenarian husband locked in a closet somewhere clutching a face mask and a canister of oxygen. She is a bit overexposed due to the success of Glee, which isn't really a horrible thing (for her, anyway). But she has yet to play Fanny and it's discussed more from fans than anyone else (except maybe twice on Glee) or around here in threads that are on the specific subject which you would have to click on to read.

And yet, I really haven't heard anyone compare her to Barbra except those who complained that Lea's performance on the Tonys was too close to Barbra's rendition of the song. I really don't think she's anything like Barbra in looks, personality or voice. I'd personally prefer to see Idina Menzel as Fanny Brice, but that's just me.
