Spotted Kail outside the theatre earlier this afternoon. I always love seeing the creative team in the throws of early previews (I also sat in his row at a Hamilton preview at The Public). It was hard not to Fan-Boy, but he looked busy

Really looking forward to this one

I'm still holding out for some cheaper tickets for the day I'm in NYC (Oct 19th - Sat). It's too expensive for the seats for me :

Saw Kail outside Hamilton there years ago and didn't know who he was, so thought he was just Groff's hyperactive younger brother. Lol.

Rush was $30. It becomes avail 2 hrs before, so it was available at 5. Got there at 5:30. Called before I got there and they told me they had 3 left. Got the last 2!

There are restrictions for rush, look on their website to find them.

At the show. Stopped 30 minutes in due to mic problems. Still waiting for it to restart.

Thanks!  I have to be 29 or less, 65 or more, or live in the neighborhood to get a rush ticket.  Not going to qualify for those.  Oh well, good to know for others.

It had flaws. It could be great if the creators fix it throughout previews.

I live next door and it's been really fun seeing the creatives and cast around so much. This is a first preview, there will be problems and perhaps they will make some changes, I will give it a few weeks.

Ok I’m going to I expand on my thoughts now.

I just got out of the first preview of The Wrong Man. For a first preview, it was very impressive. Joshua Henry was great, the songs were incredible, and there were some really astonishing moments. Had there not been a five minute hold about halfway through, I think the show would have an incredible flow. It’s a very raw show, and the stop messed that up.

I did have some problems with it though. I fell in love with the cast album over the summer, and they did a lot of unnecessary fiddling. One big mistake they made was slowing down the first half, and speeding up the second half. (No song list by the way, but I kept note of which songs were cut: Walk of Shame, No Daddy, ...Stays Here, Almost Hopeless, Dead Man Crawling.) Additionally, in the album it seems like Duran and Mariana just had a one night stand, and here they tried to make it seem like true love. This led to an awkward balance of love and one-night-standedness that doesn’t really work. And then there’s one other big problem.

The choreography. SO overchoreographed. Imagine the dancing in Hamilton being put over a man on the verge of tears singing about how he’s about to be killed after being framed. Additionally, when

The Man in Black kills Mariana,

a woman with blond hair vaguely resembling Mariana’s walks on, along with a man with a beanie like the Man in Black’s, and they do a weird ballet with the actual characters looking on. At least when Duran sings his final song, they just sit in a circle with Duran in the center.

My seat was C2. That’s the front row all the way on the side for this show. Stage is the perfect height. Stage seating is just two risers on each side of the stage. If you can, sit in the center as it doesn’t really play to the sides.

There were some very impressive moments though. As I said before, the show was very raw, and the most raw moments were the most stunning. All of Duran’s songs were highlights, especially Stay Positive and Break Me Out. Overall, the show is in great shape, and if they use the preview period well, this has a pretty good shot of making it to Broadway this season.

I really wanted to like this. In from out of town and only able to see a couple shows. It’s not good. The story isn’t crafted well. You don’t care about the characters. Joshua Henry is incredible. I’d listen to him sing anything but the material was bad. The lyrics were cheesy and the songs were so repetitive. I never want to leave a show. Even if it’s not good but when the mic issue happened I was praying they would just cancel the whole thing and refund our money. I don’t know how a show with such a creative team gets this far without someone saying this is really bad. On other note, saw a matinee of Slave Play and wish my wife and I could have just kept discussing it instead. It was truly remarkable.

One more thing and then i’ll shut up. The subject matter is devastating. It should have been way more powerful but they way it’s structured and written you end up liking the villain’s songs the most. It was so confusing. I’m not sure what the vision was for this show. The direction was a huge miss. Tommy Kail has done some incredible work. No one will remember this but that’s ok because everyone will remember Hamilton.

They cut Walk of Shame and Stays Here? Those are two of the best songs from the album. Is there a lot of new material in the show? Is it a traditional book musical, or is it sung through?

I'm curious to know what people thought of Lacamoire's orchestrations and what the instrumentation is for the show.  I'm not impressed with many of the tunes, and that is deterring me at the moment from seeing the show (despite wanting to see Josh Henry);  so, I'm wondering how much the music benefits from Lacamoire's contribution.

Saw it. Did not like it.

Let me explain: Gorgeous music for a "song cycle", lovely idea. But its over-produced, over choreographed, and It's trying way too hard. I hate when people want to make a show edgy, and instead of actually just telling the truth, and tapping into the core and the honesty of the story, they make it fake edgy. Lets put everyone in ripped jeans and cut off t-shirts and cornrows and strip down the set, and hunch our shoulders over...

I wish I felt more. I wish I could've connected with the characters, ANY character. But it's way too shiny and sparkly. Travis Wall's choreography is always exceptional, but it's the only thing that actually moved me. We don't need Ciara in a heavy (horrible) blonde wig and "edgy black clothing" - the costume is wearing her. Ryan Vasquez has a gorgeous voice, but there's nothing else there. Joshua is singing his FACE off, but he's doing his best with material that doesn't fully support him.

After a while, all the songs sound the same. And can we talk about the HAMILTON moments? There is a song that feels JUST like a reincarnation of "Room where it happens" - complete with Burr jumping off the table at the end. They recreate choreography from "Hurricane", sans turntables. It's like Kail ran out of tricks.

It's meh. See it if you want.

If one of the things they are advertising is a hot, young choreographer, I just assumed the show is very choreography heavy. I hope this is not another Alice By Heart situation. The only two shows played in this beautiful space both sucking? Bummer.

I saw Alice By Heart as well and I would watch it on loop for a week before I’d watch The Wrong Man again. It was truly awful.
