The live-action Lion King is set to feature four of the film's original songs by John and Tim Rice. Elton John told The Sun, 'They need to have a new end credits song. There's going to be four of our songs in the film, from the original: 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?', 'Hakuna Matata', 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King' and 'Circle of Life'. And then there will be an end, closing song, and we've been speaking to Beyonce's people and hopefully Tim and I and her can cook up something.' Casting Controversy Leads to Online Threats Against High School Students
Casting Controversy Leads to Online Threats Against High School Students
February 8, 2018

The Ithaca High School production of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME has been cancelled following an outcry over the lack of diversity in casting. However, the national attention placed on the school has lead to online threats. The Ithaca Journal reported that students complained when a white actress was cast in the role of Esmerelda, a part intended to be portrayed as a Romani person living in 15th century Paris. In recent productions, including its 2014 premiere at La Jolla Playhouse and the New Jersey's 2015 production at the Paper Mill Playhouse, a woman of color -- Ciara Renee -- was cast in the leading role. Additionally, the 1996 Disney film animates Esmerelda with a dark complexion, and this is the film that the students of Ithaca High School grew up watching. An African-American Ithaca High School student told the Ithaca Journal, 'It shows you that, if you can't get the parts that are written for you, what parts are you going to get?'

DEAR EVAN HANSEN's Pasek and Paul Help Students See Their First Broadway Show... And You Could, Too!
February 1, 2018

This past fall, Tony/Oscar/Grammy award-winning writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul helped forty-five students from a Bed Stuy public middle school in Brooklyn, NY learn about musical theatre through their renowned Broadway show, Dear Evan Hansen, through ASCAP's Children Will Listen program. 'My students and I cannot thank The ASCAP Foundation enough for our experience seeing Dear Evan Hansen… Not only did the students learn to have empathy for one another through this story, but they saw themselves within the characters on stage, which provided the perfect gateway theatre experience… If not for this organization, many of these children may never have set foot in a Broadway theatre,' said Jennifer DeRosa, drama teacher, M.S. 57 in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, NY.

Google may be on the right track towards cracking down on those scalped, $1,000+ tickets. The #1 Internet search engine has began the process of vetting Broadway ticket resellers in an effort to reduce the number of notoriously expensive scalpers. Google wishes to remove these sellers from their top results by requiring an inspection that must be passed in order to receive advertisement on their website. This will hopefully clarify to online ticket customers which sites are real Broadway ticket vendors and which are deceptive ones.
